The NSW Government, in close consultation with NSW Health and other agencies, has developed a draft strategy to guide the future of the Wollongong Health Precinct, located west of the Wollongong CBD.
The draft strategy considers:
- Public spaces and transport including more parks and areas that bring together residents, workers and visitors, and includes new connections across the South Coast Rail line to support movement between key areas.
- Public safety and access within and around the precinct including Crown Street becoming a low-speed area to support safe cycling and walking, enhanced links with the train station and central business district, and mixed-use zoning to support the growing health industry and a 24-hour workforce.
- Opportunities for different housing choices for different household types, including affordable housing for future residents and key workers.
The strategy also considers how the Wollongong Public Hospital may look to grow into the future. NSW Health and Transport for NSW are also developing masterplans for upgrades to the Wollongong Public Hospital and Wollongong Station respectively. These masterplans have informed the development of the strategy.
The draft Wollongong Health Precinct strategy public exhibition is open from Thursday 24 April 2025.
