I Object to Avenis Energy’s Deniliquin BESS on the following grounds:-
• It is destructive to native flora and fauna;
• Construction will leave a legacy of land destruction that is unlikely to be rectified by the builder;
• It is an abomination on the natural landscape along with the whole diabolical NSW energy infrastructure roadmap.
• It is part of a system that costs billions, does not work reliably and attempts to solve a problem that does not exist, in other words useless and irresponsible use of public funds;
• All such infrastructures should be built at developer’s expense, NOT on public funds.
As we are told that wind and solar are the cheapest, well prove it, remove all subsidises - DO NOT build this system on public funds;
• The TOTAL cost has not been verified by independent experts;
• There is NO verified scientific basis for reduction of CO2 in the atmosphere so this project is a total waste of public money, along with all other such projects. 
There is in fact reliable verifiable scientific proof that CO2 is beneficial to plant life and by extension to human life on earth.

This could also negatively affect soil and water quality, with potential runoff into local waterways, harming both the environment and the local agriculture that many rely on for their livelihood.

Moreover, the materials used to construct and operate battery farms—such as lithium, cobalt, and other metals—pose significant challenges in terms of sourcing, recycling, and disposal. The environmental costs of mining these materials, often in areas with lax environmental regulations, could undermine the very sustainability that renewable energy projects aim to promote. Without a clear plan for managing the lifecycle of these materials, the potential negative consequences of the project outweigh its benefits.

It is essential that we prioritize the preservation of our local environment alongside the adoption of renewable energy solutions. I strongly urge you to reconsider the Deniliquin battery farm's current plans and conduct a more thorough environmental impact assessment that takes into account the full scope of potential ecological damage, local biodiversity concerns, and long-term sustainability.

I encourage you to explore alternative renewable energy projects that do not compromise the health of our local ecosystems and the well-being of our community. The balance between green energy and environmental protection should not be sacrificed.

Lease agreements are written to be exploited by future buyers.
The Developer can sell the Wind/Solar/BESS Factory on without requiring permission from the host.
The host is not privy to any subsequent changes to the lease agreement.
The new buyers can add or delete clauses to suit their business needs.
The new company will amend the caveat on the land title without requiring permission from the host farmer.
The sale is done in secrecy – the deal between the foreign owners will be subject to confidentiality clauses, so they won’t disclose the new lease arrangements with the host farmer.
 
The farmer has handed over his land to who knows who?

It will be up to the farmer to decommission the infrastructure at a future exorbitant cost of eg. 1-2 million per turbine (and climbing.)
Insurance underwriters and Banks know this – The host farmers are now a financial risk to their businesses.
 
It is pie-in-the-sky politics to think a Wind/Solar/BESS Factory developer will cough up 200 million now for a bond or bank guarantee during the development phase.
The developer is in it for a quick buck, the lease is written to attract foreign buyers, and no foreign buyer is going to wear the decommissioning burden.
 
In any commercial lease agreement, if the lessee tenant shoots through, it’s on the landowner to clean up the mess.
This is the law.
The only option the landowner has is to sue the tenant for costs …. Good luck with that.

We object to this planned industrial BESS.

The BESS will be using lithium technology. Batteries use lead, lithium and cobalt, all of which are hazardous materials. This is of much concern to residents and the community as ordinary fire suppression measures cannot extinguish a Lithium chemical reaction fire. A fire that occurred in the 350MW/450MWh BESS during testing on 30 July 2021 in Geelong, Victoria shows how dangerous it can be for nearby residents. When one of the 13 tonne battery packs caught fire, it burned for three days and resulted in the evacuation of residents because of the toxic fumes generated.
A fire in a BESS would threaten immediate residents and those residing in the nearby township of Deniliquin, a mere 5km away.

What about end of life for the BESS? According to the CSIRO in 2021, only 10% of Australia's 3,300 tonnes of lithium-ion battery waste was recycled. Lithium battery waste is growing at 20% a year. Most of Australia's battery waste is shipped overseas, with the remaining waste going to landfill, leading to potential fires and environmental contamination. This is NOT ‘green”!

This project should be rejected.

BESS is dangerous and brings hazards to the project and community.
The noises from this BESS project will have negative impacts on the nearby livestock and wildlife. These impacts will be evident in not only everyday life for the animals, but also during breeding and birthing cycles. BESS carries significant fire risk.

This battery storage system is of a major fire risk and will put significant strain on local and rural firefighting services. These local firefighting services are not equipped with the resources or man-power to manage emergency fires for when they do break out at this site. Why should the community risk their lives and step up to fight fires for infrastructure that they never wanted there in the first place?

NO!! I object to this project. Explore a reliable form of energy such as nuclear. Explore a cleaner form of energy such as nuclear. Battery Energy Storage Systems are too dangerous for the environment. BESS presents significant fire risks.
BESS infrastructure will negatively impact the safety, visual amenity of the Deniliquin community and landscapes.

This infrastructure is too dangerous to the neighbouring properties and communities. BESS and solar panel factories are a significant fire risk. I object to this project.
