I strongly support the proposed continuation project.
Hunter Valley Operations provides employment for roughly 1500 people but it does so much more as well.
There are countless small local businesses that HVO supports as well as supporting local sporting and non for profit community groups with donations and help.
HVO also supports our next generation by offering apprenticeships that help set our young people up for their future.
My husband and I both work at HVO and hope to continue working there until we retire. Our lives are based around our employment, as is our children's schooling and after school activities.
The way I see it, coal is still in demand world wide, and with the amendments to HVO's continuation project I believe they can continue to mine coal responsibly for some time to come. This gives thousands of people in our local community job security and time to plan for alternative career paths.

I currently work at HVO. My job provides an income & stability for my family. HVO along with all of the other coal mines in the Hunter Valley generate 1000's of jobs & support local businesses. It generates a lot of $$ for the community & the NSW Government. HVO supports a lot of charities. It provides funding for community groups & local sporting groups. Without this approval where will this funding come from? Where will all of the HVO employees & contractors now find jobs?
In 2024 & 2025 HVO held 2 Family Day's onsite. I was part of the planning committee. It was a mammoth task but it was so rewarding bringing everyone together. Seeing families come to site to see what we do really showcased why HVO is so important.
I was born in Singleton. My Father worked at HVO. He provided for us just like I am doing now. I do not want to lose my job!
I fully support the HVO continuation project. If this project does not get approved too many people will be out of work. All of the Hunter Valley will suffer. I do not want this to happen!

I support the continuation project for HVO, my partner is an employee there and it’s important to me. Also, the huge amount of money that they donate to the community is extremely important. Plus the hundred of millions of dollars that they pay the government in royalties, help keep australia going.

I would like to record my strong support for the HVO Continuation Project. Having worked with Hunter Valley Operations, I’ve seen firsthand the positive impact this operation has on local employment, regional business opportunities, and the wider Hunter community.

The continuation of HVO is not only vital for maintaining reliable energy supply, but also for ensuring ongoing investment in safety, environmental management, and community programs. This project provides certainty for hundreds of families who rely on it for work, and it also sustains many local contractors and suppliers, including businesses like mine.

For me, supporting the continuation of HVO is about more than just the economic benefits — it’s about keeping people in jobs, strengthening our community, and ensuring that operations are carried out to the highest possible safety and environmental standards.

I fully back this project and the value it continues to deliver for the Hunter Valley region.

The project is vital to ensure our current standards of living are maintained up until other means of sustainable energy have been implemented, tried and tested.
The continuation project will ensure that not only the current thousands of direct and indirect persons/jobs are maintained but future employment opportunities and skill development of future generations will be assisted.
I fully support the HVO continuation proposal.

Impacts to land and water is devasting to not just the Hunter Region.
Here are some points that mean a lot to me, families, animals, earth and it is greed driven.
The proposed mine expansion will have devastating impacts on land and water in the Hunter Valley.
The HVO mine complex straddles the Hunter River and the expansion intends to mine directly into strategic agricultural land and the River’s alluvial aquifer.
Mining for the Continuation Project will worsen groundwater drawdown already affecting the Hunter River’s alluvial aquifer by half a meter.
Cumulative drawdown of Wollombi Brook alluvium will be up to 2 meters and this impact will extend long after mining ceases.
Recent monitoring has identified that groundwater in the alluvium and other affected areas is exceeding water quality triggers in the HVO area. A large tailings storage dam adjacent to the river was found six years ago to be seeping into groundwater.
Instead of expanding the mine, Glencore and Yancoal should be cleaning up the huge HVO site and investing in long-term environmental remediation of it.
This means so much in the issues of our times of cleaning up the mess we have made in the past and healing this land.
Thanks you for reading my submission

warmest Regards Michele
