HVO North Open Cut Coal Continuation Project

Over the last 2 years I have been employed at HVO. Myself and my family have built our lives around the local community of singleton. My parter is a teacher at singleton high school and we would like to stay within the community and continue contributing to learning children and to the economy.

Without Hunter Valley Operations and its extension, there will be mass job loses not only within the mine but a significant amount of local and Hunter Contractors and businesses will suffer.

My son has worked here most of his working life and has made his career in this industry which he loves.

We need the mine to keep going to support our town and families

This project employs over 1500 people and supports multiple business in the surrounding community, it will have a big impact if the mine shuts down, not only on the community but all businesses who supply the mine

I work at HVO.
I live in Muswellbrook.
I have lived here for 21 years.
I have worked at HVO for 15 years.
I do not wander in and out. I spend my money locally.
I own my home and pay rates.
I support local sporting clubs, schools and charities.
I shop locally where I can.
My children attend local preschools.
My family depends on the mine, the food on our plates, the clothes on our backs, the roof over our head are reliant on these jobs.
All the local townships are reliant on mining. Singleton Muswellbrook, Denman, Aberdeen, scone.
Without long life mines more than half the local businesses wouldn’t survive. Once the money leaves, the town will die.

This project will continue to provide necessary jobs and public funding to support the hunter community

This project will ensure the future of my working life and my children’s employment prospects.

I support this project because of the economic benefits it provides to my family, the local area and beyond. The amendments will allow the mine to operate in an environmentally safe manner for future generations.

I believe the continuation of the HVO mining venture is a great asset to the hunter valley not only for the amount of people they keep in jobs on site but also contracting companies around the valley. They support the community donating to local businesses, hospitals and schools and community projects. Keeping jobs in the hunter also keeps family’s living and thriving in the country as I did as a child. Mining supported my childhood and I am now proud to say I am also the next generation also in mining supporting our growth in Australia

I support HVO to stay open as the Hunter Valley relies on mining for infrastructure and employment

This will support over 1500 jobs in the Hunter regions .loss of jobs in any region has a domino effect.It will have a devastating effect on the economy.

The project is essential to be approved to ensure the on-going prosperity of the hunter valley region with respect to economy (jobs) and the orderly transition to a low carbon economy as majority of existing coal mines close in the late 2030’s.


Hvo are to be commended for the change they have made to the project to reduce the carbon footprint of the project and reduce overall mine life at the sacrifice of overall project profitability.

I am an apprentice here at HVO.
Mining is backbone of Hunter valley.
Climate change is not real it’s called evolution.
Don’t make 1000’s of hard working individuals lose their jobs.

Without the extension of this mine I wouldn’t be able to support my young family as my wife isn’t able to work full time as she looks after our 2 year old. This mine is so important to so many people.

I support the HVO Continuation Project.

HVO is a major contributor to the local economy, supporting many families and businesses through employment, trade, and investment in the region. The continuation of operations will not only provide job security for current employees but also create flow-on benefits for local suppliers, contractors, and service providers.

I strongly support the approval of the HVO Continuation Project. This project is vital for the long-term wellbeing of the Hunter Valley, not only by preserving direct employment in mining, but also by sustaining the many local businesses, contractors, and suppliers that depend on the industry. These jobs provide security for families, support small business growth, and keep money circulating in our regional economy.

The project also plays an important role in maintaining funding for community through partnerships and sponsorships.

While economic benefits are significant, I also understand the importance of managing environmental impacts responsibly. I support the continuation of the HVO Project with the expectation that it meets modern environmental standards, incorporates ongoing rehabilitation efforts, and works transparently with the community on sustainability practices. Responsible mining and environmental care can and should go hand in hand.

The consequences of not approving this project would be felt across the region, through job losses, reduced investment, and a decline in community support programs. The Hunter Valley has a proud history of contributing to the state's economy through mining, and with the right oversight, this can continue in a way that supports both people and the environment.
