Project not needed for the Hunter valley and the people in the valley. We are becoming unhealthy from the dust and carbon emissions. We are not subsidising your corporate profits any longer. I am objecting to foreign ownership and corporate greed. I object to the length of approval sought for to allow this project to go on for do long with minimum regulations applying.

This project needs to be approved to underpin the energy transition and continue to support the 1000s of employees and contractors and their families and in turn, local businesses and the broader community. The impacts of the project are relatively minor and manageable . HVO are a competent and responsible operator and deserve to continue growing this business for as long as there is a market for the product.

I am writing to provide my strong support for the proposed extension of the HVO mine in the Hunter Valley.

The Hunter region has long been supported by mining, which underpins local employment, provides essential contributions to regional businesses, and delivers royalties that fund vital infrastructure and services across New South Wales. Extending the life of the HVO mine will ensure these benefits continue well into the future.

Key reasons for support:
1. Employment and economic security
• The extension will secure existing jobs for HVO workers and create additional roles during construction and operation.
• Local contractors, suppliers, and service providers will continue to benefit, strengthening the regional economy.
2. Community stability
• Families across the Hunter Valley depend on the mining industry for stable employment and income.
• The extension will help retain young people in the region by providing long-term career pathways.
3. Contribution to NSW economy
• The mine generates significant royalties that support schools, hospitals, roads, and other public services across the state.
• Continuation of this project ensures NSW remains globally competitive in resources.
4. Balanced environmental management
• The mine has demonstrated a strong commitment to meeting environmental obligations, including land rehabilitation and biodiversity management.
• Ongoing investment in technology and best practices will minimise environmental impacts while delivering economic benefits.

The Hunter Valley has a proud history of contributing to the prosperity of New South Wales. This extension represents an opportunity to secure the region’s future while maintaining responsible environmental stewardship.

I strongly encourage the NSW Government to approve the proposed extension of the HVO Mine.

I support the project as I know how much hunter valley operations support, put into the community and also employ a large number of local residents including myself, if the project was to be rejected that would leave a lot of families without work including myself and put extra stress on our household in the challenging times everyone is currently living in

I live and work in the Hunter Valley. There are many reasons I support the Hunter Valley Operations Continuation Project, below are a few.
- The impact of greenhouse gases directly from the operation of coal mines is very small when considered against total global contributions. With most of HVO’s coal being exported, the emissions resulting from overseas coal fired power stations would not cease, the coal would just be sourced from elsewhere, likely with a higher ash content, causing higher global net emissions than if they were supplied by HVO.
- Hunter Valley Operations supports over 1500 direct jobs and many more indirect jobs.
- It significantly boosts the economy through wages, purchase of goods and services, and through taxes and royalties.
- From the provided maps it is clear that majority of the disturbance area has been previously disturbed/ mined, with any areas of additional disturbance offset as required.
- It is clear from the vagueness of the ‘Hunter Regional Plan 2041’ that the region is not ready to transition away from coal mining as a key industry in the near future. The council payments, funding for local community groups, sponsorship for events, and royalties generated from coal mines such as HVO are imperative for the success of our region as we transition to net zero.

Coal mining cannot be viewed in isolation. The supply of coal provides the bulk of electricity for our homes, our ‘green’ electric vehicles, hospitals, processing facilities for our food, public transport, heating, cooling, computation etc. The NSW electricity grid already struggles to keep up in times of high demand.
I agree that Australia should invest in green energy alternatives, but I am not naïve enough to think the transition will happen quickly and without coal mining to support the economy, and coal powered electricity to support the electricity grid through the transition.

I support the extension of the HVO Continuation Project as the Hunter Valley does not have enough jobs to support the loss of circa 1500 people that are currently employed at HVO.
With coal mining across the Hunter in general in decline, the loss of HVO will result in a significant economic slump in the Hunter.
The proposal has addressed the environmental considerations requested by the Government and should be approved.

The continuation of HVO is vital to me personally and the community I have lived in for the last 38 years. My friends and family have benefited greatly through coal mining and the contributions the mines have made to the Hunter valley. The continuation of HVO is needed to maintain the quality of life in the area moving forward.

HVO responsibly mines valuable resources contributing billions of dollars to the Australian economy. Directly employing over 1500 local families, who rely on this business to support their families. Should this project not be approved, this would be a massive blow to the local economy and direct/indirect employees of HVO who are already subject to cost of living pressures.

I am writing to show my support for the HVO Continuation Project.

HVO is a backbone of the Hunter Valley's economy, directly employing over 1500 jobs and supporting many more businesses (around 800 suppliers) and people within the Singleton area, Hunter Valley and beyond. There is no current alternative available that can cushion or accommodate the significant impact (of displaced workers and loss of business) that the closure of HVO would entail.

I have been fortunate to work at HVO for the past 18 months and have been very impressed with their interest in driving safety initiatives, supporting the community, and care for environmental sustainability. Notably seen through HVO recently taking onboard the feedback around emissions for their last submission and reducing the LOM and mining output limits to drop scope 1 emissions by 43%.

I am very keen to see this project succeed, given I am a younger engineer who is interested in staying at HVO - both for the care of continued economic growth in the Hunter Valley area, and importantly to start a family.

Kind regards,
Connor

The project needs to go ahead otherwise the local economy in the hunter valley will greatly be affected, not to mention the thousands of people that will be out of employment. What will all these people do for work to support their families?

As a local hunter valley resident, and 4th generation coal worker, it is very important for projects like the HVO expansion to go forward, these projects not only provide local jobs but provide local support for the whole area, this includes small businesses, sporting organisations and schools to name a few. If we deny this and any project within the hunter valley we risk losing a whole lot more.
I understand that the whole "green" situation is happening and thats fine but to put this agenda before local communities and local jobs is ridiculous. Lets think of not only the families who rely on projects like this one but the future generations that will want to work in this industry.

I support this project as it provides thousands of jobs to Hunter Valley people and families, and without this mine, coal mines and the industry, the Hunter Valley would not exist.
