This project is a must for the Singleton and surrounding community. With so many jobs being affected, to reject this submission would have a detrimental effect to the community & economics of NSW.

Mining is the heart of the Hunter valley. The nation and Thousands of family will suffer is mining is forced to close.
Fingers crossed the government using our mineral to reduce the cost of living.
I owe everything, myself and my family have to mining.

I have had the privilege to work at Hvo for nearly 10 years and it has set me up for life and my family. I really enjoy working here and can’t see myself doing anything else I can set myself up for retirement here. This company should continue mining for years to come and the continuation project should be approved. This itself has a huge impact on the local community, local businesses, people of the hunter region. So many families and businesses are supported by Hvo and plays a big role in the global economy. Hundreds of families and individuals are employed by Hvo and we need to keep it that way.

I am a young professional at the beginning of my career in the mining industry, but also part of a generation that will be directly impacted by the effects of climate change over the coming decades. This position gives me exposure to both the environmental concerns that are often raised around such projects, and the important economic role that mining continues to play in our communities.

From this perspective, I believe the HVO extension is vital for our community moving forward. It allows for the continuity of employment and economic stability, whilst also providing us with the time and resources required for an effective transition. A sudden closure would not only create social and economic disruption, but would undermine the capacity required for change.

I also appreciate the amendments made to reduce the environmental and community impacts, including the significant reduction in projected emissions and improved measures to limit air quality and noise impacts. These scope changes demonstrate a willingness to adapt and respond to concerns.

Approving the HVO extension, with clear commitments to best practice and environmental accountability, is the most practical path forward. It provides the stability needed for a balanced transition, while continuing to support local communities and the broader economy.

I am satisfied with the additional measures now being implemented by the project to further reduce emissions and enhance environmental performance. These actions demonstrate a genuine commitment to balancing economic growth with responsible resource management. The project plays a significant role in supporting the local economy through jobs, community investment, and regional development, while aligning with a clear vision to achieve carbon neutrality. I believe these commitments will help ensure that environmental sustainability and economic prosperity go hand in hand for the long-term benefit of our community.

This project will provide countless amounts of jobs and opportunities for the people of the Hunter and allow for workers to successfully provide for their families. Whilst also continuing to allow for the Hunter region to grow by producing and exporting coal keeping the area sustainable.

HVO provides crucial jobs for the community and allows singleton as a township to thrive. Without the pit continuing operation, many people would be forced to move and start over. Reducing the kids in schools, the mother's supporting the community and the dads coaching football on the weekend. Keep them open!

I am writing to express my support for the Hunter Valley Operations Continuation Project and to encourage its approval and progression. This project represents a vital continuation of responsible resource development that balances economic, social, and environmental considerations.

The HVO Continuation Project will ensure the retention of over 1,500 direct jobs and many more indirect jobs across the Hunter region. These are well-paying, skilled positions that support families, small businesses, and community services. In a time of economic uncertainty, securing stable employment is crucial for regional resilience and growth.

The project will also continue to contribute significant royalties and taxes to both the NSW and Australian governments, which are used to fund critical public infrastructure, health services, and education.

HVO has a strong and ongoing history of engaging with and investing in the local community through partnerships, sponsorships, and support for local initiatives. The continuation of the project ensures the longevity of this support, especially in small towns and communities that rely heavily on the presence of industry for economic stability.

While coal mining presents environmental challenges, HVO has demonstrated a proactive approach to environmental stewardship. The project includes comprehensive plans for:

Progressive rehabilitation of mined land

Reduced dust and noise through modern technologies

Biodiversity offsets and water management strategies

Furthermore, HVO’s continuation provides a structured pathway for energy transition. As global and national economies shift towards cleaner energy sources, it is essential that this transition is managed in a way that does not abruptly disadvantage workers, families, or regional economies. HVO provides the time and resources needed for long-term planning and retraining.

The continued operation of HVO ensures energy security and supports the export economy. Until renewable infrastructure is fully scaled, coal from the Hunter Valley remains a critical resource for meeting energy demand in both domestic and international markets, particularly in countries undergoing their own transitions away from less efficient energy sources.

The Hunter Valley Operations Continuation Project is not just a mining extension — it is a commitment to regional prosperity, community wellbeing, and responsible environmental management. It offers a realistic and measured approach to balancing economic needs with sustainability goals.

I respectfully urge decision-makers to approve the project in recognition of its importance to the Hunter region and New South Wales as a whole.

Hunter Valley Operations is an important part of the economy within the Hunter. Providing over 1500 full time jobs and supporting local families, businesses and livelihoods. The hard work and dedication, of all departments, towards safety, environmental responsibility and community is critical to the business operations and is done extremely well.

I lived in the Hunter Valley for many years and worked in the mines there, the first mine I worked at was Hunter Valley Operations. The mine provides significant local economic contribution through direct employment as well as indirectly through the local suppliers and retail shops. HVO provides economic contribution to the state government through royalties which then goes on to improve services across the state.
I fully support the continuation project which is crucial for the region and state.

I am in full support of the continuation project for the benefits it brings to the Government and Local regions. HVO operating until the 2040s will continue to provide employment for a large number of people, provide continuous revenue streams to a host of suppliers and businesses and generally contributing to the overall economic health of the State and Region.

Allowing the continuation of HVO South will allow me to continue working in the mining industry which allows me to support my family with a good lifestyle and allow me to support my children through an educational program. Working at HVO has allowed me to gain skills that I would not be able to gain outside the mining industry. HVO have allowed me progress from an electrical tradesman to a maintenance planner.

I have worked at HVO for 17 years and we use best practices in mining so we have limited negative effects to environment, neighbours. We contribute so much money for the local area,, plus state. $1.8bn. 1500 workers plus if you add shutdowns, it'll rises to nearly 2000.
Some easy facts for the people who oppose, we are not digging through new ground, not expanding and getting closer to horse studs (not that it matters if so, thoroughbred of the year a while back was raised on a mine owned land next door to two pits), all we are doing is going back through old digs, just going deeper. So unlike all the other approvals that have gone through, ours is not getting bigger.
Climate change, the world is starting to get sick of being told what to do on net zero when other countries do nothing. China mines over 4bn tonnes per year, 10 times more than all of Australia combined, but the left and greenies want to stop us. We could shut every power station and coal mine in Australia, and it would not make a single difference to the world. Actually make it worse. Other countries with bad mining practices will just fill the gap with less quality coal, so in fact you'll pollute more at every stage of scope 1,2 and 3. This is the fact that the left don't understand where rest of Australians do. We should not be holding back business and industry in our country, making it poorer and making us as a nation go backwards, just to make a few people in Sydney happy, so they can look down their nose on other countries and say look at us, we don't pollute, when in fact that person probably puts out a bigger carbon footprint than most average Aussies. Won't even start on climate change itself, we're still coming out of an ice age, of course we're getting warmer. And it used to be hotter. The planet is actually greener due to more co2 which is good.
My overall opinion. Definitely approve this project. This community needs it, the world will still be using coal in 20 years, so we might as well supply the best to them, even if our country is too stupid to use it ourselves.
