Enforcements

On 22 June 2023, NSW Planning issued an Official Caution to Warkworth Mining Ltd (WML) for exceeded noise impact assessment criteria at three noise monitoring locations for the Warkworth Continuation Project on 20 July 2022.  WML had failed to implement their approved Noise Management Plan on the night of 20 July 2022 in the lead up to the exceedances. WML have since implemented measures to ensure compliance with their management plan and NSW Planningcontinues to monitor WML's noise reporting data and implementation of the NMP.

Hi my name is Paul Wilcher and I'm an employee at Mount Thorley Warkworth. I have been employed there for nearly 5 years and within that 5 years I have gained a full time position after completing one of the traineeships. I am submitting this letter in support of the proposed extensions. I currently live in Heddon Greta which is a about 30 minutes away from Mount Thorley, I have a wife and 2 beautiful children aged 5 and 8 months. If this proposal doesn't get approved I would be forced into looking at work interstate which means that I wouldn't get to see my family on a regular basis. Like most other workers at the mine on our days off we like to put spend time with our families doing recreational activities not just within the area but throughout the state and country which helps out the other businesses. The revenue that the mine generates doesn't only help out the Hunter Valley it helps out the state and country as well. The mine also relies a lot on local businesses who supply all sorts of different services to the mine, these businesses not just in the Hunter Valley will be affected but throughout the state and country which would possibly lead to more job losses within the industry.

I have been employed at MTW for the past 2 and a half years and would like to stay at MTW long term. The approval will benefit the Hunter Valley community as the workforce spends their money in the community. Businesses are already closing down due to the downturn, it will only get worse if the extension doesnt go ahead.

As a train driver for Pacific National this expansion is extremely important for my job security. Mt Thorley is our bread and butter it is our main contract. Pacific National recently had a round of layoffs and there is a lot of anxiety in the work force at the moment, people are scared about losing there homes, morale is the worst I've ever seen. Mt Thorley/Warkworth isa very professional mine and would be an absolute disaster to the local economy for this mine not to keep going.

My Familys livelihood is dependant on this mine extension. It's tough times in the industry and without a job my career and livelihood is in jeopardy. More importantly, my daughter is in the last few years of high school and if I lose my job I would have to relocate to find work making it more difficult for her to complete and be successful in her education.

i support the extension with the amount of jobs on the line, the money that this mine injects into the community will be greatly missed if the extension is not approved, the amount of familys that will suffer and people without jobs in the community will be devastating.

My job with HVL Group depends on this Mine. This extension will not only keep the Miners at MTW in a job but also a lot of others who work for contracting companies in a job.

I am in support of the extension as I believe the negative impacts put forth by nearby residents and the media are unsubstantiated and have been greatly overplayed.
There is, and will remain, ample buffer between the mine and Bulga if the extension was to take place. Also the rehab work that will be done once mining has ceased, to what was majorly deforested pastural land, will be of greater benfit to the environment due to the planting of trees and shrubs.
