Sydney, with its vast size and growing population, needs game changing transport and land use strategies to avoid becoming increasingly dysfunctional.
Much of WestConnex, however, is responding to the symptoms of this dysfunction, rather than addressing the underlying structural causes.

See the submission, whose conclusions follow
In the longer term, Westconnex will do little to ease road congestion in Sydney. Failure to address transport pricing and improve rail do so will leave New South Wales with increasing road congestion, and dependence on oil. Oil vulnerability needs reducing, and not increasing.
There is clearly a need to upgrade rail infrastructure within New South Wales. There is also a need to address road and rail pricing, as recommended in 2003 by the Parry report.
A more balanced approach is needed between new road construction and developing a fit for purpose rail system for NSW. Regional NSW deserves a much better deal than it is presently getting,

I wish to express my strong objection to the WestConnex M4 East motorway proposal. If built it will generate additional traffic, funnelling it into heavily congested middle-ring and inner city roads, requiring the demolition of homes and businesses to make way for road widenings on the surface road network to distribute the traffic from the motorway.
I also wish to register my objection to the government awarding tenders for the project before a full business case has been publicly released and before the EIS (EIS) has been published and the public has exercised its right of participation.
The complete objection to the M4 East EIS (SS6307) is attached

I submit my submission about the irreparable effects on the heritage of Sydney and the fact that the proposes WestConnex tollway systems will rob Sydney of heritage and character, in a process that is neither transparent not convincing. Other more affordable and effective options have not been investigated at all as part of this process yet this is possibly the biggest infrastructure proposal in the history of Australia.
