Building a new home in NSW just got easier with a new digital tool released today to help guide homeowners through the process from start to finish.

Deputy Secretary of Delivery, Coordination, Digital and Insights at the Department of Planning and Environment, Amanda Fairley said the myHome Planner would assist people building or renovating a home, with all the necessary steps and information available in one convenient location.

“Building a home is an exciting life event but navigating the process can often be stressful, confusing and time-consuming, especially for first timers,” Ms Fairley said.

“From laying the foundations to finessing the finishing touches, we want to help people to get their dream project off the ground and reduce some of the stress.”

Department of Customer Service’s Deputy Secretary of Customer, Delivery and Transformation William Murphy said feedback from a Department of Customer Service survey helped inform the development of the tool.

“More than 70 per cent of respondents said an interactive building guide would have been helpful when constructing their home, with around 60 per cent telling us finding trusted information was challenging,” Mr Murphy said.

“myHome Planner provides that clear and trusted information around rights and the regulations people must adhere to when building a home.”

“This new tool equips customers with the knowledge they need to research, plan and design a new home.”

The myHome Planner has been developed as part of DCS’ Life Journeys program, which works across government departments and agencies to connect customers with targeted support, to navigate key life events with confidence and ease.

It will include interactive property reports, links to advice from NSW Government departments, and a checklist of considerations when building a new home.
