This project is a resubmission of the previous attempt to which I strongly object. My objections are:
* Loss of green space for our area.
*Increased traffic on our urban streets, endangering our children.
*Parking chaos in our streets and lanes
*Loss of playing fields for our Juniors
*Loss of emergency evacuation point for the local High School and green space for the same.
* Soccer and cricket told they should go elsewhere with a long unnecessary trip to Beresfield the touted alternative.
* Increased flood risk from increasingly heavy rains which are currently mitigated by these ovals.
* Non acceptance of the local residents rejection of the last development application which also triggered a change in the local council.

There are so many kids that are missing out on playing basketball due to the lack of facilities. To engage more kids in the game we need a better facility. Newcastle has been very patient, now is the time, let’s make it happen, no more excuses, get it done!

This basketball stadium hosts thousands of hunter children each week. It is crumbling and dangerous. We have to be vigilant with our young children when watching our older kids play as there is many dangerous spots they could fall between or under all around the bleachers. It is horrifically hot in summer and there is large holes in the roof.
It is an important gathering spot in the heart of the city of Newcastle and serves so many in our community.

Approval of a new stadium is highly supported by our community and families. The project is long overdue for development and improvement of the existing stadium. Current facilities cannot be used during weather (rain, heat etc) and are in desperate need for repair/ redevelopment. The project has our full support for approval.

We have 3 kids who all play basketball. The basketball stadium is beyond its useful life, and needed replacing 20 years ago. This facility will be great for the whole community. Build it!

What a great venue to have in the Hunter Area. As the current stadium is in poor condition it would be a great asset to the community and development of local athletes.

To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to express my strong support for the development of the Hunter Indoor Sports Centre. As a parent of a child who currently plays basketball at a representative level, I have seen firsthand the challenges that our young athletes face due to the lack of quality sporting facilities in Newcastle and the Central Coast region.
Basketball is one of the fastest-growing sports in Australia, yet the availability of fit-for-purpose indoor courts locally is falling well short of demand. Representative players, such as my son, are often required to travel significant distances to access training venues or to compete in appropriate environments. This places unnecessary strain on families, increases travel costs, and creates barriers for young athletes who wish to pursue sport at a higher level.
The Hunter Indoor Sports Centre would not only provide much-needed high-quality facilities for basketball, but also create opportunities for other indoor sports, community programs, and grassroots development. It would support pathways for athletes aspiring to play at representative and elite levels, while also encouraging participation and inclusivity at the community level.
An investment in this centre is an investment in the health, wellbeing, and future of young people across our region. I believe the Hunter Indoor Sports Centre will become a vital hub for sport, community engagement, and youth development, filling a gap that has long been overlooked in our area.
I strongly urge all decision-makers to support this project and make it a reality for the benefit of our athletes, families, and wider community.
Yours sincerely,
Brooke

Newcastle needs a major indoor facility, which it currently does not have to house the numerous indoor sports we have in Newcastle. Newcastle has one of the largest basketball associations in NSW that is housed a ageing venue not fit for purpose. It is not large enough to cope
with size of the basketball association. This and trying to squeeze volleyball and pickleball.

This project represents a gross mishandling of already well used government assets. Taking away green space and much loved community sporting fields is a terrible decision, likely leading to the increased risk of flooding, heavy traffic in the surrounding suburbs and limited outside space for the adjacent high school.
