HVO North Open Cut Coal Continuation Project

My Name is Matt. I live locally in the town of Muswellbrook NSW. I have three children. My oldest works for Programmed Engineering (who supports HVO mine every day with repairs and maintenance works). My Middle child works within the local horse industry and my youngest child has ambitions to be a doctor. My wife is a 25 year experienced Midwife and Registered Nurse, she works for Hunter Area Health at Muswellbrook hospital. I have worked at HVO for 11 years in the role of a maintenance planner / scheduler. HVO has also supported my brother in the past, as he worked here as a contactor and has since gone onto working with BHP in QLD as a Open Cut Examiner. HVO and the staff have been not only a major financial support / main income for our family; but also a source of emotional and mental support; as I experienced in the last few years while nursing my father thru cancer and his death. My manager at HVO provided me with both the flexibility and support my family and the mentorship to keep me mentally on track and positive. He has become a strong role model in my career and will continue to provide any necessary support, moving forward. My mates I work with have been there during this whole process, from inception and the realisation that my life was going to change for the worse; right thru to the culmination of my fathers death. Without the mate ship, guidance, support and basically; the challenges provided on a daily basis by HVO as a whole; I may not be here. That's why HVO needs to be approved, that's why our family's and teams deserve to be trusted with the important task of safely and ethically mining coal for NSW. HVO isn't just a business, its a family.

More than 1500 local jobs continued.

I work in the mining industry and my family work in support industries. We also live in the area. I believe there is still a need/market for coal going forward. The world is not yet in a position where we can stop mining coal sustainably.
• This not a new mine. They have been mining here for 70 years.
• There’ll be little change to the scale or intensity of mining and no increase to approved annual production rates.
I believe it would be irresponsible of the Government to not approve bearing in mind the impact that would have on the nearby communities, surrounding industries and the need still for coal.

I would like to support the mine future. It is corner stone of the community and provides a multitude of the employment opportunities.

I believe that this extension will be good for the community and surrounding areas. HVO is a source of income for me and my family.

I support the project because it is good for the jobs, local community and our National Economy.

Small towns not only rely on farming business but also mining business with employing 1500 people. Earned money is spent locally to small towns in various local businesses. With the amount of tax paid by employees, council maintains amenities. Environmentally, mining business grows trees to support health and wellbeing. Noise complaints from local residents are managed in accordance with policies and procedures set in place.

Without HVO mine operating I would no longer have a job.

HVO has always been focused on its commitment to Health, Safety, Community and Environment. HVO is a large employer in the local Singleton region. The business supports both local and regional businesses. HVO provides solid stewardship of the resource we have been permitted to extract. Over many years HVO has made and still invests into the local community and the region. The state of NSW benefits as a whole from the royalties paid onto the governments.

Continuation of mining at HVO are the boosts in jobs, wages and community funding that HVO make to local towns and regions.
My family and I rely on HVO for my income.
As the footprint of the mine isn't actually changing, I can't see why there should be any reason not to approve the project.

As a 54-year-old who has only recently re-entered the mining industry at HVO, I am grateful for the opportunity that has been given to me, not just as an individual but as father, grandfather, and partner. This opportunity has given myself and my family the security that we have been searching for, and the continuation project secures my families future. I, like thousands of other employees, contractors, and suppliers of HVO, are all incredibly dependant upon the continuation of this project. Without it, our futures are far less brighter than they are today!

As a current employee of HVO, I support the continued operation of the mine. HVO provides me with stable employment and income that allows me to provide my family. HVO’s continued charitable works help the community, especially those most in need such as Singleton Family Support, Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation, and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter service.

I would like to express my support for the project.

The importance that HVO has on the local jobs and economy through local businesses cannot be understated especially with other large employers in the area like Liddell Power Station planned closure in the near future.

The relocation of Lemington Road and removal of Moses Crossing is a big win as the road has been closed for the majority of the last 12 due to flooding or road conditions. So also is the consolidation of the final land form to a single void north and south for the long term land usage.

I hope that the full socioeconomic factors are considered in your assessment and that the project is approved.

It provides work for the local community and businesses.

Between now and 2050 the mine is expected to emit a total of 1.2 billion tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere, should the continuation project be approved.

HVO is an existing mine not a new one. It already employs a large number of local people and supports a large number of local businesses.
To deny the continuation of this mine site would have a dramatic negative effect on a huge number of local people and businesses.

HVO is an integral supporter of the local Singleton and greater Hunter Valley/NSW region. I have been an employee at HVO for 13 years and have been a Singleton local for same amount of time. HVO brought myself and my family to the region from interstate in 2010. Since then 2 of my children have completed schooling in Singleton and are working locally. I would love to see HVO continue brill 2050 to allow the next generation of my family to remain in this wonderful part of Australia.
HVO not only provides employment for direct employees and contractors but extends influence to many other businesses whether a supplier or a cafe or service station that Employees visit daily.
I truly believe that HVO should continue in its best practice mining , processing and rehabilitation for the duration of the applied for consent.
