I support the HVO North Project. It supports local jobs in the Newcastle and Hunter region whilst the economy transitions to renewable energy over the longer term.

HVO is a mine that has been supporting the Hunter Valley for over 30 years and plans to provide significant investment into the local region for another 30 years. Having grown up in Denman and returning home, I support the mining activities in the region as it provides myself with career opportunities, but it is greater than just me, there are multiple communities and families who rely upon the operations at HVO. In regard to the environmental impacts associated with HVO, the maintained footprint provides reassurance that the business can carefully maneuver whilst safely mining coal in a controlled manner that provides limited impacts on the surrounding communities through investment in infrastructure (water carts, monitors, water fill points) that ensure that dust levels are kept to a minimum. As an employee at HVO, we pride ourselves on ensuring that all environmental considerations are given the highest levels of attention and respect as this is at the core of our business. The economic aspects associated with the longevity of HVO are phenomenal. The State government revenue received from the Royalty is important to the investment in State owned infrastructure and bodies (NSW Health, NSW Police, Department of Education). This money provides ongoing benefit to such a range of individuals that stems outside of the Hunter region and could be a significant loss to the government and their ongoing funding of critical staff and infrastructure. In addition to this, I live local and appreciate the importance of spending local and supporting our communities. It is from the smallest of acts such as the morning coffee or the weekly fuel refill that the flow on impacts of having a job local means that my money is able to be spent local. Whilst there is 1,500 people approximately employed at HVO, the spread of our operation easily extends beyond this to the associated industry businesses such as engineering and fabrication type operations that continue to employ people from the local community to the person stocking our shelves at the local supermarket. Without money flowing into the community, the existence of said community is eradicated. Whilst the consideration and focus on a global scale is in relation to climate change, the dialogue needs to change from extracting coal to how can countries around the world become similar to the Japanese who have reduced their level of greenhouse gas emission by using the byproducts from the coal burning process to create other substances such as concrete. The question needs to be how we as a country can help the developing nations around the world who rely so heavily on Australian clean coal producers for their livelihoods have the infrastructure that promotes safe and environmentally friendly burning of carbon. For the future of myself, my family and my friends, I support the HVO continuation project.

The project supports local jobs and businesses. It is not expanding into new areas, so this mine should allow to continue to help with affordable energy.

HVO supports many local businesses and for the amount of jobs supplied permanent and temporary that if it was to not move forward the impact on the hunter valley economy would be major. As a person that used to work on the site I had witnessed a high level of commitment to the safety and support of its workers, contractors and local community

As citizens of this country that is frequently impacted by extreme weather events including the current heatwave impacting us right this very second, it is in the public interest no further coal operations are made. True this is an old mine, however this mine is looking to mine another few hundred million tonnes of coal and emit all the carbon stored within. Carbon emissions are the leading cause of climate disaster and mass extinction. Any "mitigation" strategies offered by the company in response are blatantly in bad faith and thus are not appropriate for discussion.

Like many other workers in this region, I depend on HVO's continued success for employment stability. (I don't work for HVO or at HVO). The company I work for is growing. HVO's extension directly affects the growth of and number of employees hired by my employer. Thousands of other workers would be in the same position as me with other companies.
Please help the stability of our employment by approving this extension project.

The continuation of hunter valley operations provides enormous opportunities for the people of singleton and the upper hunter, directly through investment in these communities and the jobs provided both directly at the operation and indirectly families setting up homes and lifestyles within the hunter valley. The long life of the asset allows for multi generational employment, and solid investment in the region for housing.
My family love attending the shows, communities events and sports that HVO, glencore and yancoal support in the upper hunter.

I do support the project and my reasons are as follows, HVO is a safe workplace that creates opportunities for people from all walks of life. The direct benefits to my family are huge, I am financially enabled because of my employment with HVO in the hunter region. Despite the introduction of renewable energy Thermal coal still a huge part in the supply of energy supporting the need for synchronous power generation. The project is definitely a much needed one not only in the community but in the whole nation's economy. Expansion of the project means assurance for young university students to have confidence of being employed as young engineers i.e., mining, mechanical, electrical and process engineers to mention just but a few professions that would be required to run the project.

I object to the continuation of the project past its current approval date and extent. ( I also object to HVO South project)
The addition of 400 Mt ROM coal extraction is a sufficient reason, in light of the worsening threat to the biosphere.
The usual 'economic benefits' ploy is ridiculous because the mines suck workers out of useful jobs to fill their truck cabins. Further, there are no added jobs apparently; the employment figures will stay the same. Those workers are needed in the natural economy.
EMM has worked hard on visual analysis. Accounting for existing features in the landscape and analysing what is seen from where, is useful. The first viewpoints reveal however, the sensitive nature of the scenery where distant views are paramount.
As well, we see that although the built-up muck heaps may only reach to around AHD 140, 160, max 200 at peak, those heights in the local context ( 80 to 100 AHD) will change the distant views around the countryside more than without the project approval. The depth of the final voids (now called "water management areas" is horrendous.. down to nearly sea level. The AHD heights are hard to read anyway, but at the highest points shown they are nearly illegible and rarely shown.
In context of the devastated lands between Singleton and Aberdeen, this is cumulatively another disaster.

In light of the requirement to reduce emissions not just for NSW statistics, but for survival, the added carbon release is totally unacceptable.

I object to any extension of the north project of HVO.

I deliver the formal qualification for all the trainee production operators at HVO north and south for Programmed Training Services and have been doing so for over 10 years and in that time have completed over 1000 certificate III qualifications on behalf of HVO. Glencore is our major host client with HVO being one of our largest host sites introducing and formalising equipment training in the safe work processes of open cut mining. The longevity of our training business means the continuation of the HVO operations is business critical to maintain the ongoing partnership with HVO and Programmed.
