HVO North Open Cut Coal Continuation Project

This will benefit all levels of government, continue jobs for the local community and provide stability to the area

The Hunter relies on projects and business's like HVO. I work for a competitor and I completely support them. They have a great record for looking out for and giving back to the local community and positively engaging with the broader community. Providing jobs for the area both directly and indirectly. I don't think we as an area or even as a country can afford to lose business's like this one.

I have worked at HVO for close to 10 year and currently a full time employee. I am in full support of HVO extending its future, this will provide great support to my family and benefit the Hunter community in which I am proud to call home.

Being a local resident to this mine and working in an adjacent mine i fully support as does my family in the HVO continuation project

HVO has been part of the local landscape for many decades, providing employment opportunities and contributing to both the local and state economies. The operation supports local businesses and has a long-standing commitment to community involvement through sponsorships and donations.
Over the years, HVO has worked alongside other industries, respected the surrounding environment, and engaged with the community, all while meeting its regulatory obligations. Like many mining operations, HVO contributes significantly to NSW’s royalty payments, which help fund essential infrastructure and services across the state.
I support the continued operation of HVO, as it plays an important role in sustaining local jobs and supporting the broader development of our region.

Requesting to continue to responsibly operate a mine that has been in operation since the 1980s.
A major contributor to the NSW government through Royalty payments, in addition to direct and indirect taxes as imposed through State and Federal jurisdictions, paid by Yancoal and Glencore .
Major employer in the region, >1600, >1200 direct employees and >800 contractors, which includes major outages and shutdowns.
Significant spend in the local, state and federal supplier/vendors >$1Bn per year

We need mining to support local communities and families

I support the HVO North Open Cut Coal Continuation Project. HVO has been an employer in the Hunter Valley for the past 40 years. HVO has contributed enormously to the state of NSW economically during this time. Throughout the last 40 years HVO has provided coal for electricity generation and metallurgical steel-making that far exceeds the quality of coal supplied by other nations thereby reducing the potential environmental footprint. If this project were to be refused, the demand for coal will be filled by those providers who may sell an inferior product. As a brownfields project, minimal disturbance is required to access coal deposits and to manage the infrastructure required for washing, handling and transporting the coal output.

I support the HVO North Open Cut Coal Continuation Project because it provides stable work for locals and supports many families across the Hunter Valley, including my partner, Luke McCabe, who works in the industry. This project is important for our community, as it balances the need for jobs with strong commitments to safety and family values. I also appreciate that there are plans in place for environmental management and rehabilitation. Keeping projects like this going helps give security to workers and strengthens the future of the Hunter Valley.

The continuations allow for sustainable jobs and money flow through singleton as well as suppliers used and family’s will have a steady income through these hard times of inflation

HVO provides income and stability for many families in the Hunter Valley directly and indirectly. More broadly, through continued steady employment of a large workforce, it ensures the continuation of many businesses and communities.

I wish to lodge this submission in the support of the HVO North Open Cut Coal Continuation Project.
I resided in Singleton for >60years and continue to be part of the Hunter Valley community working in the Mining industry.
I have personally experienced the economic contribution and support that HVO has made to the community since it started, which is >40 years, and the many businesses and families have prospered from this economic activity in both Singleton and the greater Hunter Valley. In 2021 HVO's direct economic contribution was $862 million.
If approved, HVO will be able to continue to:
- provide around 1500 ongoing local jobs plus 600 temporary jobs constructing infrastructure upgrades
- support businesses and suppliers - HVO spends around $500 million annually with more than 800 suppliers, many of them local
- pay taxes, royalties and other payments to governments to support infrastructure such as schools, hospitals and roads, as well as pay for teachers, nurses and Police
- support charities and community projects through its community grants, charity support, sponsorship and workplace giving programs.
HVO is not a new mine, and there is little change to the scale or intensity of mining and no increase to approved annual production rates. The world economy will require existing energy sources while it transitions to a lower emissions economy, with strong demand in the short to medium term for high quality coal.

I am an employee and have been working at HVO for 16 years and my father worked at HVO for 35 years and I am proud of the fact that I work at the same place as my dad.
HVO supports many local, regional and Hunter Valley families and businesses through employment, services and manufacturing. HVO contribute to local charities by donations and annual grants.

I strongly support the HVO North and South Open Cut Continuation Project.

As a lifelong Singleton local, now raising my young family here, I know how important this project is for the future of our region. My family, like many others, rely on the opportunities Hunter Valley Operations provides, with jobs, community investment, and economic activity all flowing back into Singleton and surrounding areas.

Hunter Valley Operations has been part of my family for generations, with my father working here before his retirement. Today, I am proud to lead the Heavy Mobile Equipment Replacement Project, ensuring that the latest, safest, and most environmentally efficient machines are acquired to secure the future of the operation.

Coal remains an essential resource, and Glencore’s responsible and sustainable approach, including the reduced footprint in this project submission, demonstrates genuine care for both the environment and the community.

HVO is a safe, supportive, and progressive workplace, offering excellent opportunities for employees. Approval of this continuation project is vital to keep our community strong and to ensure ongoing investment in Singleton and the Hunter Valley.

Hunter Valley Operations (HVO) has a strong record of contributing to the local community, economy, and state revenue. In the past year, HVO spent approximately $1.2 billion with more than 800 suppliers and contributed $276 million in taxes and royalties to the New South Wales Government. These payments directly support essential services such as hospitals, schools, and roads.
The HVO Continuation Project Amendment Report outlines how HVO plans to continue delivering benefits until 2045, including:
Providing stable employment and training opportunities for local workers.
Sustaining long-term contracts and business for local suppliers and service providers.
Delivering significant royalties and tax contributions to fund community infrastructure.
Continuing investment in environmental management and progressive rehabilitation.
The continuation of HVO will ensure that these contributions and opportunities remain in place for decades to come, creating ongoing prosperity for employees, contractors, and the wider community, this needs to continue.
For these reasons, I highly support the HVO Continuation Project to secure a strong and sustainable future for the region.

I fully support the proposed project as I am a employee at the mine and my family has benefited due to the stability of employment for the last 14 years and I get to see the benefit the mine provides to the local areas and the revenue it raises for government
