I wish to provide my support for the proposed extension of the Hunter Valley Operations (HVO) mine. In my view, this project should be approved on the basis of its long-standing presence in the region, the limited change it represents to current operations, and the significant economic and social benefits it provides.
It is important to note that this is not a new mining development. The HVO mine has been in continuous operation for more than 70 years. The proposed extension is simply to continue the existing operation, rather than to expand it into something materially different. Production levels are not expected to increase, and the overall scale of the mine remains largely consistent with its current footprint. As such, the extension represents continuity of an established operation rather than a step-change in mining activity.
The contribution of HVO to the local economy is considerable. Approximately 1,500 jobs are directly and indirectly supported by the mine. This includes permanent employees, contractors, and a large number of local suppliers and service providers. In a regional setting such as the Hunter Valley, the availability of stable, well-paid employment is critical to sustaining households, schools, small businesses, and broader community infrastructure. The sudden removal of this level of employment would have severe economic and social consequences.
At present, there is limited evidence of a structured transition plan for coal mine workers in this region. If HVO were to cease operations in the short term, the workforce would have very few local opportunities to transfer their skills. Many would likely need to leave the area in search of work, leading to population decline and reduced demand for local services. Extending the mine’s operating life provides the community and government with time to prepare and implement a more orderly transition, thereby avoiding a sudden economic shock.
Beyond its role as a major employer, HVO also makes a measurable contribution to the local community through support of charities, sporting organisations, and education initiatives. These contributions provide benefits that extend beyond direct economic measures, supporting social cohesion and community development in the Hunter Valley.
In summary, the proposed extension does not introduce new or untested impacts. It allows for the continuation of an operation that has functioned in this region for decades, under regulatory oversight, while maintaining a critical source of local employment and economic activity. It also provides time to plan for future workforce transition in a responsible and staged manner.
For these reasons, I support the approval of the HVO mine extension.

The HVO company has long been a high standard open cut coal mine which boosts the local and state and federal economies and is a must to continue for the community for singleton and local areas, not only does it employee 1000’s of people, the asset reaches far further!
As a employee,
the company sets very high standards to comply with all legislation and laws and is a responsible operator of the mine site.
The continuation will be a great asset to the community and definitely is a must!

Firstly, mining has played a massive part in my life, my dad worked as part of the mining industry and though that allowed me to have opportunities I have today, I completed my apprenticeship though mining companies, worked for a supplier to the industry, work for mining subcontractors that lead to me being at HVO for the last 13 years. This has provided me stability & opportunity to succeeded in life which I'm very grateful off. My wife has worked for mining supplier for last 15 years & most of her extended family works for mining suppliers or directly for mining company. My brother also works for a mining labour supplier. All my mates also work for the mining industry in one way or another. All this has a connection to HVO or mining industry. HVO is a massive part of the community & Hunter Vally as whole. If I was to lose my HVO family & what it provides to myself, my family & community would be a negative effect, as it would leave a massive gap of employment & opportunity that I would find very hard to see it being filled. I want HVO to be here provide a future to everyone as I know it has a positive effect. I want HVO be here so I can provide for my family, especially my daughter Camilla.
I support HVO continuation Project Amendment in full.

I believe this project to be essential in the Hunter Valley to provide both energy resources as well as jobs and economic contribution to the region. Failure to continue would have significant negative economic and social impacts.

I support the HVO North Continuation Project because it is vital for the economic future of our community and the Hunter region. This project secures hundreds of local jobs, provides reliable income for families, and supports local businesses. HVO has a strong reputation for community engagement, supporting local initiatives, Schools and charities, and I have seen firsthand its positive contributions. In the face of other major local closures, HVO's continuation is essential to prevent a significant downturn and maintain economic stability for our area and also for the State. By continuing operations under strict environmental conditions, HVO provides essential economic benefits while remaining a responsible and engaged member of our community.

I support the project as I’m currently employed by HVO as a full time contractor. I believe the project is needed to keep the economy ticking over and keep everyone that’s currently employed jobs to provide for families.
The project matters for the community, workers & Australians future.
