These wonderful heritage buildings are part of our heritage, and not to be destroyed on the whim of a government that seems to care little for this heritage.
The people of Parramatta overwhelmingly want these buildings retained.
Parramatta is without doubt the heritage centre of Australia. Far too much of this heritage has been allowed to be destroyed over the years. It must stop now.
No-one is objecting to the development of an appropriate museum or cultural complex in Parramatta. The Cumberland Hospital/Fleet Street area would be very appropriate for such a development. The area just reeks with the history of Parramatta, and Sydney in general. The new tram line will run close to such a development, making public transport an easy way to get there.
If such a development were to be considered for this area, we would like to propose that it includes a museum dedicated to migration, and the role migrants have played throughout the last two hundred and thirty years.
Thank you for taking the time to read this email.
We have made no reportable donations to any political party.

Does heritage listing mean nothing to this government? So many buildings have been lost due to stupid decisions and here is the opportunity to stand up with the community and save these two buildings. The Powerhouse museum at Ultimo itself has so much history and should be preserved and maintained as the Powerhouse Museum in the CBD.
I have not made any political donations now or in the past.
Please save these two buildings, listen to the people and save these buildings from demolition.

I object to the Powerhouse Parramatta project because I am appalled at the destruction of Heritage buildings and sites in the Parramatta area. They have not only been demolished, but if retained, they are overshadowed and dwarfed by imposing skyscrapers all in the name of short term gains.
Other great cities of the world value their Heritage buildings and places of cultural significance and use them to entertain and educate their citizens and visitors alike. They use these places to generate more income. But not the NSW Government. They seem hell bent on selling out all our Heritage sites to developers who have no interest in any Australian history pre or post white settlement.
Yes Western Sydney does deserve a Museum and Arts precinct but not at the expense of our Historical Heritage. Put the Museum somewhere else. There are numerous alternative sites around the Parramatta area that could be used instead of a flood prone, already overdeveloped, river bank site.
I declare I have not made any reportable political donations.

It is recommended that you:
*Keep the Powerhouse Museum at Ultimo
*Create a brilliant Museum and cultural destination at historic Cumberland Hospital Precinct in North Parramatta.
Save historic Willow Grove & St Georges Terraces, and realise the existing Parramatta Council vision for a public square alongside the river.
Please do not publish my information.

We object to the EIS that has been exhibited after looking through the Plans and documents because the overall Site Design and impacts are unacceptable.
The fact that much 'effort' has been provided in the documentation is entirely opposed due to the flawed presumptions that:
1. Requires demolition instead of creative integration of the Heritage Buildings on site
2. Overcrowds the flood–zone on the public foreshore causing a very unpleasant undercroft, effectively the same as the existing Carpark
3. Under provides any permanent display, or sufficient Climate Control space of a standard required by the MAAS itself.
4. Does not provide adequate curatorial, workshops, or storage space onsite.
5. Removes all trees on–site, and does not even conserve or feature the old Swamp Oak beside the river.
6. Does not provide bus and car–parking for school student and visitor groups, 'demolishing' St.Georges Terrace merely for bus drop-off.
7. Sees the primary purpose to be large corporate functions and events without embracing the broader needs for Cultural Landscape Museum.
The Phillip St site is far better suited to be a location for a redeveloped Riverside Theatres, connecting with Willow Grove and St Georges Terraces, Green Openspace Gardens and a wider Riverbank foreshore precinct.
For these reasons and the failure of an expensive Design Competition briefing to respect Parramatta's heritage onsite the project is opposed. Instead, an alternative location is requested for a Network of Museum site that engage with the real heritage and cultural landscape.
Parramatta has a series of small 'community–run' museums that need to be energised and 'connected' to MAAS.4, Riverside Theatres, a CBD STEM Education Tourism Orientation centre.
The Alternative needs to include the Cumberland Hospital precinct on Fleet St, and utilise the suitable series of redevelopment footprints (from non-signficant building removals) near to the Light Rail line, include Botanic Gardens restorations and integrate functions with the Female Factory Heritage Core over several stages and years with restorations.

It is your role to not only to help in its preservation, but to aid in interpreting it and to actually celebrate its significance.
Countries and culture's of of long standing world influence did not attain their influence by ripping down their old buildings, instead they cherish them.
Why should Australia be any different?
You have the ability to incorporate the heritage buildings of Parramatta into its future.

To demolish these two beautiful old heritage buildings would basically be a step in the wrong direction. We have very little heritage sites in this area to start with and to destroy these two would be taking away part of the history of Parramatta. Please consider other options than tearing down the little history with have.

NSW is being heavily developed and we are losing more and more of our heritage and charm. These two buildings are being needlessly destroyed for a project that is unpopular and that is already being partially revoked.
I wholeheartedly object to the demolition of these buildings and ask that alternatives that don’t destroy history and nature are considered if the project goes ahead.
I request that my name is withheld from publication with my submission and note that I have not made any reportable political donations.

There is a simple solution. A three point plan .
Keep the Powerhouse Museum at Ultimo
Create a brilliant Museum and cultural destination at historic Cumberland Hospital Precinct in North Parramatta.
Save historic Willow Grove & St Georges Terraces, and realise the existing Parramatta Council vision for a public square alongside the river
I appreciate your help in keeping the Powerhouse exactly where it is.

Parramatta has so much promise but it must be allowed to develop around it First Nation and early European history instead of bulldozing it to the ground and trampling everything that makes Parramatta special. I am 62 years old and spent my whole life in and around this area. I feel that I had the privilege of growing up in this rich and diverse area and I would hate for Parramatta to become another soulless city of ugly glass and steel.
There is a better plan for advancement for the Parramatta area, but we need the political will to backdown and realise that the milk crate will never be warmly received by the people of Parramatta. Listen to us before it is too late and save our heritage.
Create a brilliant Museum and cultural destination at historic Cumberland Hospital Precinct in North Parramatta.
Save historic Willow Grove & St Georges Terraces, and realise the existing Parramatta Council vision for a public square alongside the river
I wish my name to be withheld from publication and I have no financial or reportable political donations.

When I visit other countries around the world I always admire the places that have stood ground for hundreds of years. Just being in the presence of many of these buildings take my breath away. So to holding on to heritage and history is exceptionally important. These beautiful structures in Parramatta withhold so many stories and as tourist research spots would have people gather a perception of how people lived in Parramatta all those years ago.
I have a deep family history in Parramatta. My Great Great Grandparents were footman and maid for Governor Bligh's daughter Edith Bligh and my Great Grandparent's home still stands in 58 Thomas Street. My Grandfather helped lay the first cobble stones for Church St. To hold onto important buildings like Willow Grove and St Georges Terrace can only be a step in a positive direction...for history's sake.
I don't mind my name published with my submission and I have not made any reportable political donations.
Kind regards and yours faithfully

We are fortunate to live in a city that still has several heritage buildings that connect us to our past and that have shaped the city in which we live with Willow Grove and St Georges Terrace being amongst these .
While I can understand the need for development and for Parramatta to keep and continue to grow it shouldn’t be at the expense of our heritage. Now with plans to retain the original Powerhouse Museum at Ultimo there isn’t the need to proceed with the original plans
Please withhold my name from being published with my submission.
I have not made any donations to any political party.

The lack of attention and understanding of the public sentiment on all our heritage issues, one after the other, is reprehensible.
There is also a log-jam of organisations all involved in the critical business of planning in this State, the endless system of referrals back and forth is ridiculous and nothing more than a ruse to deceive and divide the people of New South Wales.
PS- No political donations have been made, and never will be.

I've been watching and listening.
I think that Ray Hadley put up the first piece of logic.
You want to knock down heritage to be able to display heritage!
Right!
You bowled over the oldest pub in Parramatta for a light rail.
You see why I'm skeptical!
Then I heard that the state Govt sold off the land whilst it was in administration.
When the state govt sacked the cancel, you then had the administrators do the bidding and miraculously they were able to sell the land to the state govt when all of the council opposed to sell.
You can't blame us for putting this up against the pub test.
I'm opposed to the demolition of Willow Grove, of the St George's Terraces.
They are historic. They should be lauded and not demolished.
I think you just follow the money. Because this is not about the people. The heritage. The history.
It's about factions. It's about someone trying to make a legacy for themselves.
It's about money. It's always about money.
Well the people are becoming more wise, and you can all just bugger off.
No.
You don't get to do this. Because we, the people, will stand in your way and oppose.

All heritage-listed buildings form, in essence, part of our ARCHIVES. And it's only because we continue to maintain these Archives that future generations are able to learn about the history of their Countries. We cannot obliterate our past!
Personally, I would prefer the Museum stay where it is if it means the demolition of 'Willowgrove'. I believe this building deserves to be maintained simply because it is a part of our history, therefore it deserves to be maintained. We are losing more and more of our history because Gladys is too Jack Hammer happy, unfortunately.
If NSW Government have 'earmarked' the site of 'Willowgrove' simply from an economic viewpoint, then they are making a huge mistake. There are ways the government can raise funds for different projects. We have NSW Lotteries for just about everything else these days, so set up a Lottery...name it 'Save NSW History' - or whatever, that's not important, but New South Welshmen are renowned for their gambling.
I know it would make a beautiful Function Centre - people would 'line up' to have their Wedding Reception there! 'Willowgrove' can make its own money - just please, please don't destroy this beautiful building. The very idea of it is criminal!!

I wish to make a statement against the proposed demolition of heritage buildings in Parramatta to allow a new building to house museum pieces.
The site is not suitable due to tidal
Changes and another more suitable
site should be acquired by council.
Have your own museum enhancing Parramatta, keep your hands off the Powerhouse which belongs in Sydney.

I wish to record my opposition to the destruction of Willow grove and St Georges Terrace in Parramatta to make way for a museum. As one who grew up in Parramatta, I know these buildings and have strong attachments to them. A museum is in a sense store house of dead things, while these buildings are functioning and also show our heritage. Once gone they can never be replaced. It is ironic that on one hand a building is being built to preserve heritage and at the same time even more significant heritage property is to be destroyed. Surely a museum, together with nearby aesthetically pleasing heritage buildings, would more attractive to visitors. If the museum structure is to be like the other building going up in Parramatta, I fear it will be soulless, an eyesore.
I hereby ask that plans be changed so that there will be a museum and Willow Grove and St Georges Terrace will remain.

I strongly object to the demolition of WIllow Grove and St Georges Terrace t Parramatta.
100,000s of Voters agree with me. Retaining these buildings will provide a sense of past History, too many buildings all over Parramatta have been lost with this massive rebuilding of the City.
Look at places like The Rocks and Pyrmont the Heritage retained have turned them into fascinating places to live and visit.
