Willow Grove and St Georges Terrace are one of a kind in the Parramatta CBD and their lose would have a significant impact on the community's connection with heritage.
There is a simple solution. A three point plan:
Keep the Powerhouse Museum at Ultimo.
Create a brilliant Museum and cultural destination at historic Cumberland Hospital Precinct in North Parramatta.
Save historic Willow Grove & St Georges Terraces, and realise the existing Parramatta Council vision for a public square alongside the river
Yours sincerely,
Please don’t publish my name.
I have not made any reportable political donations.

My name is Hayli Thomson and I'm a resident of the Parramatta area writing in objection of the planned destruction of Willow Grove and St Georges Terrace.
From the moment I heard of your intentions, it honestly made me incredibly embarrassed to be Australian. I don't intend for this to be a lengthy email. You've read the arguments against the destruction of the properties (although it's startlingly obvious that you don't care to understand these arguments), so I won't waste my time outlining them.
I've always held the history of Parramatta very close to my heart. For the HSC, I spent a year deep in research in order to write and perform a drama piece based on the Parramatta Female Factory. Ten years later, I'm a published author of Australian children's literature. I write historical fiction for kids. In destroying Willow Grove and the St George Terraces, you're robbing future generations of their history, of touchstones of our country's identity. How deeply shameful.

I object to the Powerhouse Parramatta project because there are other solutions that can be used to bring about a resolution befitting the use of these two important venues. As well, the public has spoken in favour of retaining and saving the heritage listed buildings Willow Grove and St George's Terrace, which demands attention.

I object to the Powerhouse Parramatta project because in my view it very shortsighted to demolish the remaining heritage of Parramatta.
Numerous studies show that maintaining heritage places brings social and financial wealth to communities by creating employment opportunities and tourism attractions, as well as creating a sense of place and community identity for residents.
There is no reason to demolish these buildings when clever design could incorporate them into a successful adaptive reuse of the site. Why should the people of NSW accept anything other than design excellence, which in my view maintains heritage as a vital part of public-space making?
I deplore the destruction of NSW heritage occurring under the Berejiklian government. The reversal on the disastrous Powerhouse move is a good start. It is now time to scrap the whole plan for the development site and listen to the community, NOT the developers and vested interests.
Sincerely,
Narelle Vance

So much of Sydney’s historical past has already been destroyed that it’s important to conserve what we have left. Willow Grove and St Georges Terrace in Parramatta must be saved from demolition and restored for the enjoyment of local people.
I am more than happy for Parramatta to have a museum but shifting the Powerhouse museum from its present site is clearly a pathetic effort to get hold of valuable land at Ultimo.
We object to the Powerhouse Parramatta project because we should conserve and restore heritage buildings in situ and because moving all the exhibits from Ultimo would be a waste of money.
Yours Sincerely,
Lee Greenaway and family

As a former resident of Westmead I have a strong connection with Parramatta having been born there and have forebears who either lived, were married or died there including a first fleet marine buried in the historic St John's Church graveyard.
Growing up where I did I have memories of some of the places in Parramatta that are no longer there and whilst some had to go others could have been saved.
Parramatta occupies a unique place in European settlement of Australia and should be looked at differently to other areas of suburban Sydney.
Progress is necessary but not at the expense of destroying history and the character of the Parramatta CBD.
I trust that the government will reconsider and look at how the new museum could be created incorporating these unique structures.

I object to the Powerhouse Parramatta project because it means losing buildings of immeasurable heritage value.
The rich history of Parramatta must be preserved through the conservation of important buildings such as Willow Grove and the St George’s Terrace.
I don’t care much where you put a museum in Parramatta but please don’t put it on the proposed site and destroy the city’s heritage in the process.
I have not made any donations to any political parties and ask that my name not be published with my submission.

We have already lost two other old hotels in the area for the light rail. Parramatta is losing some of its historic character,
If those in Europe had thought like the state government there would only be new buildings!
Where the museum is being planned to be built is a flood plain and it seems a very costly and risky procedure to build there anyway.
I have not made any reportable political donations.
