Dear Marcus, I object to the Powerhouse Parramatta project because..

I have grown up with being in the city which is central to everything , being able to take visitors , friends and family and mainly my grandkids there on a regular basis will no longer be an option if it moves to Parramatta

Tourists come to the city central to enjoy the museum’s , city sights and the Power House but this will not travel to Parramatta neither will we

I object to the Powerhouse Parramatta project because..
1. I believe strongly in keeping our heritage and readapting it for reuse. Otherwise we end up with soulless generic buildings that could be anywhere and have no connection to our history. Both Willow Grove and St George’s Terrace have a strong connection to who we are as Australians and how we have become the country we are. Let’s not just tear them down for another big building.
2. I believe in having a museum of the Powerhouses caliber but in the Cumberland Hospital precinct as part of an inspired cultural precinct and hub. This is a wonderful opportunity to thoughtfully reuse that site for the people of western Sydney.
We should look to the future while valuing our very important past.
Both Willow Grove an St George’s Terrace have stood the test of time.
Please let them continue to do so.

I object to the Powerhouse Parramatta project because of the destruction of Willow Grove & St George’s Terrace.

We have so little extant built heritage & to demolish these buildings for lack of care & thought is inexcusable.

They should be preserved, used & treasured - England, Europe & America can manage it- why can’t we in NSW??

I don’t want my name or details published

I strongly object and oppose to the Powerhouse Parramatta project because you are destroying the history of Parramatta.

Whilst I do not resent the idea of the Powerhouse Museum moving to Parramatta, it’s the poor and senseless planning that in creating this museum we would just destroy the past. Willow Grove & St Georges Terraces are museums in their own right. They tell a story of Parramatta’s past in an evolving city.

It is simply inexcusable to destroy fine architecture and remove the past of Parramatta. You are extinguishing the community’s connection with what is our heritage, what we hold of significance and value in our area.

Here are some possible solutions, how about incorporating these buildings into the construction of Powerhouse Museum OR find a different location to build the museum.

I oppose the destruction of Willow Grove & St Georges Terrace and say NO to the construction of the Powerhouse Museum if these buildings are not left standing.

Dear Marcus,

I object to the Powerhouse Parramatta project because I think it would be a tragedy to destroy historic buildings such as Willow Grove.

New South Wales has lost far too much of its heritage architecture and history, and we need to preserve what is remaining.

Imagine if The Rocks had not been preserved and we were left with some soulless, now dated, buildings in place of priceless history and architecture.

Willow Grove is an important reminder of our early history of European settlement and belongs to all Australians.

Please reconsider the plans to destroy it.

Dear Marcus,

I object to the Powerhouse Parramatta project because the preservation of historic Willow Grove and St Georges Terraces has far greater importance to our city and nation than replacing an already suitable Powerhouse Museum. Preserving our history for future generations is so important, especially in Parramatta. Please do all that you can to protect these community assets for my children and future grandchildren.

Yours sincerely

I'm writing in regards
to the destruction of Willow Grove and St Georges Terrace and would like to register my disapproval of such a decision.

It's such a shame that the State Government consistently has no respect for the architectural heritage of the city, and an embarrassment
that the city's cultural facets go unrecognised and overlooked by those elected to office. Any serious world city admires and respects their history and their architecture, valuing it for its beauty, its history and how it reflects the personality of its people.

It's especially sad that this is happening in Parramatta, an area with a more recent history of urbanisation and as such already lacking
in the Italianate and Terrace architecture seen in the inner city that so epitomises Sydney, not to mention the fact that
it seems to be mixed messaging from what the State Government outlined in 2016 as a desire to plan for more medium density buildings such as Terraces.

I object in the strongest possible way to the proposal to redevelop Willow Grove and other adjoining properties for the development of the Powerhouse Parramatta project.

It would be so wrong to take the existing Powerhouse Museum out of Ultimo, and relocate to the Willow Grove site. Willow Grove itself and the St. Georges Terrace are great examples of early Australian architecture. They are more than worthy of retaining. How can you even consider demolishing them??? And to build a so called "Museum" when these buildings are almost 'museums' themselves!!!!

We have lost so many of our heritage buildings - it would be criminal to lose these. The surroundings and gardens, where existing, should be retained also.

By what I have read, there would not be enough space in the new "museum" to accommodate all the wonderful items that are at Ultimo anyway. So its a pretty daft idea in the first place.

I would like to see the Powerhouse Museum stay in Ultimo, and all the buildings retained.

A new "Museum", or Gallery, or Exhibiiion Space could be created at Parramatta, but please, do not destroy Willow Grove or the St. Georges Terrace to do so, or any other building of historical value for that matter.

I have never made any contributions to a political party.

Dear Marcus,

I object to the Powerhouse Parramatta project because…

Willow Grove and St Georges Terrace are one of a kind in the Parramatta CBD and their loss will have a significant impact on the community’s connection with the heritage. I have a familial connection to Parramatta all the way back to 1810s. I love to check on Willow Grove and appreciate the variety of buildings. Demolishing that will render Parramatta undesirable places to visit for me to my visitors.

There is a simple solution. A three point plan that others have outlined recently.

* Keep the Powerhouse Museum at Ultimo
* Create a brilliant Museum and cultural destination at historic Cumberland Hospital Precinct in North Parramatta - the space is there, just need to add tram line and you’re doing it right for all.
* Save historic Willow Grove and St Georges Terraces, and realise the existing Parramatta Council vision for a public square along the river that will not crowd the area.

My main concern is that Parramatta is not equipped to deal with more visits, especially those school buses, etc. Ugh.

Please do the right thing for us all.

Thank you,

I object to the Powerhouse Parramatta project because these buildings are an intrinsic part of the history of Parramatta. They are much loved by the community.

Why is it necessary to destroy HISTORY to make way for development.

Here is a wonderful opportunity for the State Government to enhance our STATE history and keep the buildings but develop a cultural centre of enormous significance at the Fleet Street Heritage Precinct.

Once these buildings are demolished they are gone for good. The like of them will never be built again.

Dear Marcus,

I object and oppose the Powerhouse Parramatta project because.. it will destroy the most significant values and ruin the history and historical fabric of Parramatta that the people of Parramatta hold so dear to with it’s most heartfelt love for its historical significance. In addition to that if the Powerhouse to Parramatta move is approved; it will invite criminal property developers...: especially from the Chinese Communist Party creating the most ugly high-rise apartments with prolonged consequences with the Parramatta river when in heavy rainfalls will have prolonged flooding that will be absolutely disastrous, not just that, once the Willow Grove and St. George’s Terraces are gone...: people and future NSW Governments will say it was the most biggest human error mistake and ill and poor misguided planning with the most serious ramifications as a tragic disgraceful travesty that will seriously stain the image of Parramatta. So please keep the Powerhouse Museum in Ultimo as it will keep its historical significance for future generations.

All the very heartfelt best wishes for the future and God Bless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

I beg of you, please do continue to destroy the cultural heritage of Parramatta. To lose Willow Grove and St Georges Terrace would be a gross tragedy, and a real loss to future generations.

It's criminal that the Royal Oak Hotel was destroyed recently. Please don't destroy anything else.

Having real, physical reminders of our past that we can see and touch and experience is so important. I've worked in the Parramatta CBD for nearly a decade, and I've seen it grow to become more and more just like another city of bland skyscrapers, with no history or character. These houses have that. A museum can be built anywhere. It can be built around it, or near it, or in a different part of Parramatta. To suggest it's heritage or a museum is deceitful false dichotomy.

The government finally listened to people and decided not to move the Powerhouse from its current location Please listen to the people again here.

I, and a great many other people (people that cannot and should not be ignored), object in the strongest possible terms to the demolition Willow Grove and St Georges Terrace at Parramatta.

Dear Marcus,

I object to the Powerhouse Parramatta project because it should be left where it is. In the current economic crisis, which will take years to overcome, it seems absolutely
Outrageous to be spending taxpayers money on a hugely expensive undertaking which the residents of Parramatta clearly do not want.

I would like to put a request to stop the demolition of the Heritage Buildings in Parramatta. My husband and I were both bought up in the Parramatta district. We really love going to see the beautiful heritage buildings and have taken our children and grandchildren to see them. It’s such a shame to see that there are less of them left today.
We thought that the local and state governments were to protect these wonders of our past so that we may teach our children to protect them but now your allowing these treasures to disappear.
SHAME ON PARRAMATTA COUNCIL.
So now we will reach all the children that they just didn’t matter to you.

Please rethink what your about to do.
