Instead, this space should be retained and embraced as public space for the community (something sorely needed with the height and density of surrounding developments) while we instead look to construct elsewhere; perhaps the Cumberland Hospital Precinct.

Willow Grove is a beautiful building of its time and should be preserved. St George Terrace has been allowed to fall into a terrible mess. The terrace for years has been allowed to be damaged by tenants.
As a child when I visited Parramatta Park and saw the bathhouse near Government House and I could never understand how the people would have had a bath with no walls. This is an example of heritage buildings being destroyed by seemingly upgrading them. There are many buildings in Sydney that have been upgraded and to my way of thinking destroyed. It does not happen in Europe or the UK.
Look at how Parramatta promotes Elizabeth Farm and Hambleton Cottage and Government House. There is not much left of our heritage Parramatta. Recently the State Government destroyed the oldest pub in Parramatta at night due to the fact that the objection of the people would be too great for them to handle.
So I object to the destruction of Willow Grove and St George Terrace and plead that the Powerhouse Museum be moved to a bigger site that can take all of the exhibits.

1. The proposed location requires the demolition of hi storicWillowGrove and St George Terraces, both of which are irreplaceable and an essential part of Parramattas heritage.
2. The proposed location on the riverbank of the Parramatta River is subject to sudden, regular and severe flooding putting exhibits and visitors at risk.
3. Parramatta, as the 2nd CBD, and Western Sydney deserve a first class museum capable of hosting international exhibits rather than the proposed one which seems to be more an events, exhibition venue.
4. The proposed location negates the vision of the Community as expressed through Parramatta City Council to have the area as a Public Square
5. Parramatta has a far more suitable site for a world class Museum, in an area not prone to flooding in the historic Cumberland Heritage Precinct.

To destroy Willow Grove and the St George Terraces to build such an ugly building in Parramatta, would be so sad.
Let’s value the little heritage that we have left.

Parramatta’s heritage buildings and the open spaces around them link the layers of the past and bring them to life in ways history books, photos and other records never can.
These sacred sites (and sights) are active archives, cultural artefacts that people of all ages can enjoy, live, breathe, learn from, share and remember.
These places are shelters, classrooms and playgrounds for intellects, spirits and ideas to exercise.
The identity, sense of belonging, pride and health of growing children, working adults and senior citizens who live in Parramatta depend on these places as individuals, families, friends and communities, for sharing and interaction.
Please think again, be creative, innovative, imaginative and visionary. Please save these buildings and spaces for the future. Please do not kill and bury them

Please give careful consideration to this decision. It is a shame, so called progress is not always what is right. Please look at the recommendations to preserve the Powerhouse Museum.

There is a far more harmonious and less brutal solution: keep the Powerhouse museum at Ultimo, where it is suited.
Then convert the historic Cumberland hospital precinct into the world class living museum that Parramatta deserves;
That way the Willow Grove estate and the St George Terraces will be preserved for the future, for the public to treasure.
Parramatta adores not only the building of Willow Grove, but the Gardens too.
Not to mention that the site of the Cumberland heritage precinct has so much more room for a museum to be accommodated, as well as being less susceptible to flooding like the Willow Grove site.
Parramatta has a proud history as one of the country’s earliest white settlements. Parramatta wants to keep every remaining example of heritage it has!
If you take away the historic buildings of Parramatta: Parramatta Looses its very claim to fame and it’s fundamental backbone of history and community.
Above all : a museum is meant to protect and preserve heritage; not destroy It!
Heritage buildings should never never ever pay the price for a museum!
Please do not let Australia down!
Extremely sincerely:

Instead how about keeping the museum at Ultimo, create a brilliant Museum and cultural destination at historic Cumberland Hospital Precinct in North Parramatta and
save historic Willow Grove & St Georges Terraces, and realise the existing Parramatta Council vision for a public square alongside the river.

I object to the Parramatta Powerhouse because I do not believe that demolishing Willow Grove and St George's Terrace to construct the museum is ethical or justified and would be a great loss to the community and future generations to loose these heritage listed buildings. These buildings belong to the people not the government. I have not made any reportable political donations.

I grew up in Parramatta during the 1950's, 1960's and for the first half of the 1970"s. I have warm and vivid memories of walking past Willow Grove as a child and admiring its architecture and beautiful gardens! I walked past it whenever I visited David Jones or the Parramatta Swimming Centre which was really quite often! What lovely memories to retain some 60 years later! As children growing up in Parramatta we were very much aware of the city's colonial history and we were proud of all these beautiful old buildings - Old Government House, Experiment Farm, Hambledon Cottage and Willow Grove. We were surrounded by our past and I believe that this gave us positive ambitions for our future. Back in those years these old houses were still occupied by private residents, Elizabeth Farm was occupied by the three Swan sisters. One of them taught piano, another elocution and I think the other taught violin. My Dad was only the third person to own our property since it was granted to Surgeon Harris after whom Harris Park was named. The local history was real to us. Parramatta is the cradle of our nation and these old buildings must be treasured and preserved . They must become a feature of Parramatta to demonstrate our country"s early years - similar to what has been done at The Rocks.
Old buildings such as Willow Grove and St George Terrace must be preserved .
There is no sense in destroying a magnificent living museum with a fascinating history to build another. This would be such a tragedy.
I am not a member of any political party.
Yours Faithfully,
Marilyn Brown

I literally cry each time I see a heritage building be demolished. I have always done this for as long as I can remember. Even before I knew of my descendancy from J Bloodworth. So it all made sense to me when this information came to light ....
It sounds ridiculous but I feel mentally scarred each time I watch the destruction of Australian building history. I have even had to see a psychologist about why it hurts so much to see the blatant disregard for the history of our buildings.
I bet I'm not the only Aussie who feels this way.
Please stop this ...
The Powerhouse needs to remain where it is and more importantly Willow Grove needs to remain intact ...
Please respect our history.
