Enforcements

On 22 June 2023, NSW Planning issued an Official Caution to Warkworth Mining Ltd (WML) for exceeded noise impact assessment criteria at three noise monitoring locations for the Warkworth Continuation Project on 20 July 2022.  WML had failed to implement their approved Noise Management Plan on the night of 20 July 2022 in the lead up to the exceedances. WML have since implemented measures to ensure compliance with their management plan and NSW Planningcontinues to monitor WML's noise reporting data and implementation of the NMP.

I have been employed at Mt. Thorley as an Operator for over 5 years. I have a young family who are dependent on me.
There are over one thousand employees on site who value their jobs, not to mention the many businesses who rely on the mining industry for their income. It would be a tragedy to see thousands of people out of work which will create all sorts of social problems in the Hunter Valley if the extension is not granted. Let common sense prevail and the interests of averaged Australians be considered. Thank you.

I support the proposed extension to MTW and believe the economic, social and community benefits far outweigh any greveinces by the minority stakeholders, this extension is impeeritive for the long term future of a prosperous Hunter Valley Region.

The warkworth extention is extremely important to both my family & my local community . If it does not proceed not only will my personal future be in doubt but the whole town & district will be adversely affected . People will be forced to move away to find employment which will have a negative impact on local business in the area . With the new highway already bypassing our town we can ill afford another setback that would be as significant as the mount thorley/warkworth mine extention being rejected !t

I support an expansion which will keep locals in jobs and the community healthy. My partner works at the mine and we rely on his income to support our young family.

I Strongly support the approval for the Warkworth extension, I believe that the Warkworth extension is vital for the overall health & wellbeing of the entire hunter valley community. It is paramount that we secure the extension to provide a strong economy in not just the Hunter Valley but for NSW.
I have concerns about the communities viability & the sound socioeconomic society the we have today in the Hunter area should the extension not be approved.
I believe that it would contribute to family break ups, increased crime rate and many more acts of desperation that will burden the entire NSW communities viability especially in the current economical downturn that we currently face.

Thank you for time

Towns like Singleton, Cessnock and Broke are already suffering from the downturn in coal. Closure of mines due will have a devastating effect on these communities and the flow on job losses will more than double the direct job loss by not granting this extension.

As a plant operator at Mt Thorley Warkworth I am one of many people reliant on the mine for employment. I am also fully aware of the concern and care the organisation shows towards the environment and the community within which we work having exposure to this every working day. I have no doubt that this concern would be both continued and supported if the extension were to proceed as we all hope. With recent mine closures and retrenchments in the area the township and greater community will be more reliant than ever on the continuation of the Mt Thorley Warkworth mine operations for its survival. It is already clearly apparent within Singleton that the flow on effect of the recent downturn has effected many business's. I believe it is essential that the extension is approved for the good of the larger community rather than the benefit of a smaller minority.

As an Accountant in a locally owned and operated business and the wife of a Mt Thorley Warkworth employee I am exposed to the impact of the local mining environment on both a personal and professional level. The recent downturn in the industry has had a profound impact on the local economy for both individuals and local business. In our organisation we are currently seeing the flow on effect of recent closures and retrenchments. As well as the departure of individuals from the area it is having great negative impact on a number of local ancillary business' and the coming year will see the effect even more acutely. I believe the extension of the Mount Thorley Warkworth mine will be critical to the ongoing well being of the local economy and the well being of the local community as a whole.

Our family relies on my husbands employment at Mount Thorley. We have 3 children under 3, 2 of which have a genetic disease, which means at present I need to remain at home as a carer. If the extension does not go through and my husband loses his job, it will be devastating for us financially.

This extension at MTW is very important to go ahead to keep the hunter's coal mining industry alive for many years to come. So many family's future depends on this to continue to support their family's and children. MTW has been in the hunter for so many years so let's fight to keep it that way!!

I am currently working at MTW, I believe the project should be approved. At my age I would find it hard to gain employment in a industry that is under pressure. I find the company responsible in addressing environmental concerns and the economic value to the state and local businesses should be taken into account.

I support this application to enable Mount Thorley to continue mining in its existing lease as I will be one of the several thousand people who will most likely be out of work or if the the mine is forced to reduce output. This will make the operation ineffecient and could result in complete closure.
This will have a huge negative economic impact to workers and businesses in Singleton, Branxton, Maitland and Newcastle as well as other areas of the Hunter.

Without approval for the mine extension from the NSW planning and environmental department, MTW won't be able to operate past the end 2015. It's a sad truth that the hunter needs these jobs (1,300 directly employed) with impacts across the hunter on jobs if another of the already decreasing mining companies shut up shop. Families cant afford more bread winners too lose their jobs, think of the now think of many and not the few.

I wish to voice my support for the Mount Thorley/Warkworth mine extension. With this approval I will be able to also extend my employement until retirement with the company thus ensuring the future not only for myself but my family and surrounding , local businesses.
Without this extension being approved the future looks very bleak on the future employment scene in the Hunter, and detering any prospect of other investors coming to the area.
Please consider my submission.

I support the expansion on MTW. The economical consequences that would flow on if the mine closed would be devastating for the local and surrounding communities. Singleton and Maitland's growth is a direct result of the employment that this mine provides to both it's permanent employees and also the many and vast flow on employment opportunities. Not only would the closure of this mine directly involve 1300 employees but it would also result in the loss of teachers, doctors and a great variety of jobs from the local community. The economical benefits from this expansion far out way the environmental offset that may or may not exist.
