Council approval is required for the installation and operation of greywater and wastewater treatment and recycling systems that service more than a single household, up to 2500 equivalent persons.
Greywater/wastewater treatment systems that service more than 10 equivalent people are not accredited by NSW Health as these systems cannot be selected "off-the-shelf" but are designed specifically for the development.
NSW Health has approved the use of treated greywater/wastewater for irrigation and toilet flushing. Variations to these uses, such as use for clothes washing or use in cooling towers, will be considered by the consent authority, with the assistance of NSW Health, on a case-by-case basis. Necessary approvals should be sought prior to selecting these other uses within BASIX.
