HVO has brought not only economic stability and wealth to the Hunter Valley but nationwide. If Australia was to lose HVO the economic hit would be felt throughout the region driving many local families to financial ruin. HVO invests in local sporting teams, work alongside councils providing support and services and sponsorship to local schools.

Submission in Support of the HVO Continuation Project Amendment
As a member of the local community, I strongly support the HVO Continuation Project Amendment currently on public exhibition.
This project is vital to the economic and social fabric of our region. It supports over 1,500 jobs on-site, sustains around 800 local suppliers, and contributes more than $200 million in wages annually—much of which is reinvested back into the community.
HVO actively support the local community and are a valued employer in this area.
The continuation of mining operations through to 2045 at HVO North and 2042 at HVO South ensures long-term employment, stability, and prosperity for our region.
The amended project demonstrates a clear commitment to environmental responsibility. The reduction in total coal production by over 220 million tonnes and a 43% cut in Scope 1 emissions are significant steps towards meeting NSW's emissions reduction targets. The fact that there is no impact to the Warkworth Sands Woodland Endangered Ecological Community is also a critical and welcome change.
This balanced approach—supporting both environmental progress and economic security—deserves public and government support.
I urge the NSW Government and relevant Federal authorities to approve the HVO Continuation Project Amendment to ensure the long-term sustainability of jobs, businesses, and economic growth in the Hunter region.
Sincerely,
Joanne Thomas

I think it is highly crucial for hunter valley operations to stay open for the hunter valleys economy, they do a lot of good for the surrounding communities and would be extremely concerning to see what would happen to the hunter if it was to be shut down. I am privileged enough to be employed by HVO which has given many of great opportunities and hoping many more going forward in my career.

I support this project on the basis that is,
1. A complying development application that should be approved on the basis that it meets the assessment criteria
2. That is supports the local, regional, state and federal economies. This is through purchasing goods and services from businesses or by providing income taxes, company taxes and royalties that would currently not be offset by other primary industry.
I am concerned that the decision to request HVO to re-submit a modified application is not based on the project meeting the original assessment guidelines rather than opinion of "what is approvable". I believe HVO have modified this application considerably based on those opinions and would strongly object to further modification or challenge to reduce this project further based on our region needing to support investment not drive it away.
There is no doubt a substantial amount of people both locally and within the state that will either not comment at all or if they do have no concerns with the project. I would request that the assessment consider that those, like myself, who support the project and generally have a limited amount of information to write in response to the application are given a degree of weighting such that those in opposition are not the only voices heard because there is more content in their objection than what is written in support of the project. Impacts have already been minimised in this project submission to meet strict planning requirements, and this project should be approved on that basis that it delivers far more benefit than it does impact.
Thankyou for the consideration.
Regards,
Ashley McLeod

I support the HVO Continuation Project Amendment, which seeks State and Federal approval to extend mining to 2045 at HVO North and 2042 at HVO South. This project is vital to:
Sustaining 1,500 local jobs and over 800 suppliers
Contributing billions of dollars to the Australian economy, with significant local investment
Delivering more than $200 million in wages each year
The amendment makes meaningful changes to align with NSW emission reduction targets, including:
Reducing mine life from 2050 to 2045
Cutting total coal production by over 220 million tonnes
Reducing scope 1 emissions by 43%
Ensuring no impact on the Endangered Ecological Community Warkworth Sands Woodland
This is a balanced, responsible plan that delivers economic certainty while reducing emissions, and I support its approval.

HVO provides great value to the local economy and the greater NSW region. It also provides employment to 1500 employees which in reality is three times that number when family support is considered.

I work for Hunter Valley Operations and live as a member of the local community. I know this project is in the best interest of a majority of the residents in the local community and state of NSW. The mine extension will support both direct and indirect employment opportunities for a period of time when other local mining operations are due to close from completion of resource. The Hunter and the NSW state government need well managed projects like HVO to continue providing job security and prosperity for its residents. Stopping Hunter Valley Operations will have a negative impact on the environment as other worldwide producers will fill the void with lower quality coal. This will have no impact on the global environment and once again disadvantaging NSW and the Australian people.
