Penalty Notice issued to Centennial Mandalong Pty Limited (SSD-5144) Central Coast LGA
On 18 March 2022, the Department issued a $15,000 Penalty Notice to Centennial Mandalong Pty Limited (Centennial) for failure to comply with operation noise criteria at their Mandalong Coal Mine. Operation noise criteria were exceeded at two attended noise monitoring locations on 6 December 2021. The exceedances of criteria were determined to be the result of ventilation fans operating on the Mandalong South Surface Site (MSSS). Centennial are actively working on engineering controls to reduce any ongoing impacts and to ensure that noise levels remain compliant.

I have just had the unpleasant experience of nearly losing my job in the Mannering Closure and only secured this role at Mandalong at the last minute ,the stress on my wife and children with talk of relocating to Gunnedah was also very stressful to me ,the new project Mandalong South would enable me to see out my working career at Mandalong into a happy retirement scenario.
I firmly believe that underground mining is less invasive than Open Cut and you only have to look at the rehabilitated sites at Munmorah and Newvale (Centennial Mines ) and Lambton B (Redhead) and John Darling (Belmont ) as Examples.
Living in the Cardiff area I know that there is a lot of Industries that are Coal Mining dependent in the Industrial Estate here that would be hampered if this project didn't go ahead.

I spend my wages in the local area and those businesses benefit from my employment.e.g.lunch every day
If the mine does not get approval it closes in 2018. The project extends that life to 2035.
The State benefits from royalties that provide police, nurses etc. If the project is unsuccessful there would be a massive waste of a natural resource.
Mandalong has a good history of environmental management and we don't destroy people's houses by undermining them.
The proposed mine plan is designed to continue to minimise the impacts to surface infrastructure and the environment.

I am long term employee of Centennial and have always found them a very community and environmentally conscious company.
Myself along with many of my friends and family are employed either at Mandalong or by Centennial in the area and the cessation of mining at the end of the current approved Mandalong lease would cause many of us to have to relocate out of the area taking with us much of the support we currently provide to community organisation and businesses in the area.
Mandalong currently employees over 300 permanent employees and provide direct or indirect employment to many more. It is almost impossible to attend a local event, golf course, preschool or school and not bump into someone who's employment relies on Mandalong Mine.
Mandalong has an excellent record of mining with minimal impacts to the people that live above the lease or to the water resources and ecology of the area.
The proposed mine plan is designed to minimise the environmental impacts to levels similar to the existing Mandalong Mine.

We have contracts with Centennial Coal at various mine sites in the local area including Mandalong Colliery, some of our employees also live in the Mandalong area.
SNK Group engages and supports a large number of local businesses in carrying out works at Mandalong Colliery.
SNK Group supports and sponsors local community sporting groups such as the morisset soccer club.
SNK Group also carries out community projects in conjunction with Centennial Coal.
The social and economic benefits of Centennials operations in the Mandalong area are far reaching. The benefits derived by small businesses like ours and their employees cannot be underestimated.
The long term viability of the mine not only impacts on business but also on the lives of all individuals who are connected to the broader picture.
We wholeheartedly support the Mandalong Southern Extension Project and look forward to the social and economic benefits that will ensue.

The impact to our property was minimal, the estimates made were obviously well engineered, the monitoring and attention by Mandalong staff was a pleasure to experience.
The broader benefits to our community have been substantial with both social and economic rewards.
I have no hesitation in supporting the proposed expansion and Mandalong's continued association with the community and residents

Mandalong has an experienced staff to meet the needs of environmentle changes with the expanding lease. I have no doubt it is a win, win situation for local residence and workers.
