The project is essential for Mandalong to continue to operate and meet its overseas customer demands given the domestic power generators can no longer commit to long term contracts. This is also essential to maintain employment and supplier businesses in the region.

This project will allow and enhance management of Mandalong coal to domestic and export markets via the CES. Failure to provide coal of sufficient quantities to Eraring Power Station and other customers could risk the ongoing employment of Mandalong staff.

This application by Centennial Coal to increase the size of the Cooranbong stockpile is a critical step to maintain the viability of the Mandalong mine as the Eraring Powerstation is coming to a close in 2 years. The Mandalong mine employs over 400 people and directly and indirectly supports many local suppliers, businesses and families in the Lake Macquarie area.

The company has made all efforts to comply with the strict environmental standards regarding these types of projects which will support strong environmental performance.
