The proposed modification will allow the ongoing supply of coal to domestic and export markets via the CES. Failure to provide coal of sufficient quantities to Eraring Power Station and other customers could risk the ongoing employment of Mandalong

Approval of the modification will allow for the surface coal facilities to support the continuation of coal supply to the NSW energy market. This is imperative for sustainable energy market supply, and approval of the modification will also help ensure there are no adverse effects on the ongoing employment of employees working for the coal producer, or a decline in economic benefit to NSW.

One of the key reasons I support this expansion is job security. The extension will directly benefit employees working at Mandalong Mine, Northern Coal Services, and associated contractors. Many workers and their families depend on these operations for their livelihoods, and ensuring the continuity of coal handling and transportation is crucial for job stability.
Additionally, the stockpile expansion will have negligible effects on the public due to the use of a private haul road. This eliminates concerns regarding increased traffic congestion, road wear, and environmental impact on public infrastructure.
Furthermore, the expansion will allow greater flexibility in deliveries to both domestic and export markets. This adaptability is essential for ensuring a stable and reliable supply of coal, which in turn supports job security and contributes to maintaining a consistent domestic power supply.
In conclusion, the Cooranbong Coal Stockpile Extension is a necessary and responsible development that will provide economic stability, protect jobs, and support energy security. I strongly urge the NSW Government to approve this project.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

The proposed extension to the stockpile at Cooranbong will have minimal impact on the local residents and will improve the operational efficiency for both the Mandalong mine and the Northern Coal Services operation. This modification is a key step in securing the long term viability of the Mandalong operation.
I encourage the Independent Planning Commission to approve this modification.
Thank you for considering my submission in support of this essential project.

I have worked for Centennial for 18 years and have found them to be a good ESG member of society and a good employer.
I strongly support the proposed modification to extend the stockpile at the Cooranbong Surface Facility. This extension is a critical step in ensuring the continued efficient management of Mandalong coal for both domestic and export markets via the Centennial Export System (Cooranbong Stockpile Extension). The modification will enhance operational flexibility, allowing for improved stockpile management, ensuring coal supply security for key customers, and safeguarding employment for hundreds of workers who depend on the mine’s ongoing viability.
A key concern underpinning this modification is the ability to provide coal of sufficient quantity and consistency to Eraring Power Station and other domestic and international customers. Eraring Power Station, Australia’s largest power station, relies heavily on the consistent and reliable supply of Mandalong coal. Any disruption to this supply risks impacting its operations, potentially affecting electricity reliability in NSW. Additionally, failure to meet coal supply obligations to export markets may result in reputational damage and financial losses that could place the long-term operation of Mandalong Mine at risk. Such an outcome would have significant economic consequences, not only for the mine’s employees but also for the broader community.
Mandalong Mine is a vital employer in the local area, providing stable, well-paying jobs to a highly skilled workforce. The mine’s operations support the livelihoods of hundreds of direct employees, as well as contractors and suppliers who rely on its continued production. Beyond direct employment, Mandalong Mine plays a crucial role in sustaining local businesses, as employees spend their wages in the community, supporting retail, hospitality, and service industries. The flow-on economic benefits extend to suppliers and service providers, including transport, engineering, and equipment maintenance businesses, all of which rely on the mine’s continued operation.
Additionally, Centennial Mandalong has a strong history of contributing to the local community through charitable support and sponsorship of local initiatives. The company has been a long-term supporter of local schools, sports teams, and community organizations, providing financial assistance and resources to enhance local infrastructure and community well-being. Without the economic stability provided by Mandalong Mine, many of these programs would struggle to secure the necessary funding.
The mine also contributes significantly to the NSW economy through the payment of millions of dollars in royalties annually. These funds play a vital role in supporting essential public services such as hospitals, schools, roads, and emergency services, ensuring the broader community benefits from the responsible extraction of resources. The proposed modification is essential to maintaining these contributions and securing ongoing economic benefits for the region.
In summary, the proposed stockpile extension at Cooranbong Surface Facility is a necessary and responsible development that will enhance coal management, ensure supply security for key customers, protect jobs, support local businesses and charities, and continue delivering substantial economic contributions to the state of NSW. I urge the approval of this modification to ensure the long-term sustainability of the mine and the communities that depend on it.

Centennial have successfully operated this location for coal logistics for a number of years and prior to that the location was an active mining operation.
I support the modification which will allow Mandalong mine to efficiently supply coal to markets and maintain employment opprtunities in the western Lake Macquarie area.
