I am writing in support of the Warkworth Modification 6.

This is a proposal for a 33 year old mine to continue its operations, at current production levels, across land that it owns and over a mining lease that was granted in 1981.

Warkworth Modification 6 is a small part of the wider Warkworth Extension Project that was assessed, reviewed and approved by all relevant State and Federal regulators, including the independent Planning Assessment Commission. These three assessments began in March 2010 and extended over a 30 month period before final approval was granted in August 2012. These assessments were undertaken by the full range of regulators, each represented by experts in their fields, specifically employed to deliver an independent, expert and considered recommendation.

The impact of the Land & Environment Court Judge's decision to overturn all aspects of the regulators' assessments and to rescind the 2012 consent has been immediate. Regardless of what happens from here, production at the mine will fall by about 1Mt in 2014 as a direct result of the decision to override the regulators. If the mine cannot re-secure access through Modification 6 in the short term, production will likely fall further. Politics and emotion aside, it's a matter of logic that if the mine cannot maintain it's production at 12Mtpa, it cannot maintain jobs for the 1300 people directly employed and others indirectly supported through the mine.

If Modification 6 is not approved in the short term, I expect to lose my job. In the current environment, my best chances of getting a new job will be to look outside the Hunter. That means I and my family would likely leave the Hunter. My three children would be taken out of school. My wife would leave her her job as a 20+yr veteran of the health service. Her skills and experience as an Occupational Therapist would be lost to the Hunter. Our story is not special, it's just another.

I support this project because I have faith that the State and Federal regulators, as well as the independent Planning Assessment Commission, have delivered three independent, expert and considered recommendations that this is entirely appropriate development of a state owned resource.

Far more than just the direct employees are affected by a mine closure or industry downturn, the supply chain runs far and wide, speaking from 15+ years in mining I have witnessed this in other areas before.

I support the extension because it will provide life to the mine and on going employment to myself and my family. It will also provide a future for a lot of business in the local area that are that provide services to the mine.
There are 1300 people that are directly employed by the operations at Mount Thorley Warkworth, not including contractors and a rejection of this extension will not only affect these people and their families but the surrounding communities as people will have to leave the area to find other employment to support their families and contracted businesses will lose business because a down turn in their services that they provide.

I am an operator at warkworth mine, if the extention is not approved I will lose my job at the mine, this will have a major impact on my family as I support six people directly in my family, It will also have an impact on the community I live in as we will have to move elsewhere because we wont be able to stay in the area. I can only imagine how many people will be affected derectly and indirectly if the extention does not get the go ahead, so please approve the extention to help not just the employees at warkworth but the wider community that rely on the mine.

I support this modification because a lot of jobs and the economy rely heavily on this industry. If the extension doesn't go ahead, not only will the mine close, but all local businesses will suffer as well.

I support the expansion of the mine, the mine has been here for many years, probably longer than most of the people who are opposed to it. There is almost 1300 people employed at MTW and their livelihoods depend on the mine, also many local businesses depend on it, and they may also suffer if the decision is not approved.

The Extention is viable for the town of singleton and surrounding towns in the hunter valley and for the 1300 employees that work in the mine. Without the extention being approved there will be many families young and old affected if its not.
