favourite holidays of the year. In the beautiful parklands we
experience a rich and vibrant culture of music, fashion, food and
nature. North Byron parklands are perfect for these world class
festivals, the layout and organisation the planning and location
really brings the spirit of falls and splendour together. It's the
perfect location, it really is like our annual holiday trip, and
wanted be the same without the gorgeous and perfect location.

identity. Music & arts is our DNA, and these events play a precious
and critical part of our community. They provide enormous benefits to
local communities, generating generous economic contribution,
employment and unparalleled support to the creative arts. The
festivals are environmentally respectful and innovative. The site and
infrastructure have been hugely improved, and now the excellent
performance of events to date - noise, traffic, ecology,
environment/sustainability are well positioned to support higher
numbers of patrons.

business in Byron Bay, Parklands and it's associated events provided a
great economic boost to a time of year that would ordinarily be quiet.
It also provides our younger casual staff more employment
opportunities and the ability to live in Byron all year round. The
site has grown and is a great example of sustainability with self
composting toilets, recycling and carbon offset programs. I look
forward to the Parklands being able to grow and evolve as it will
present even more opportunities

support it being taken to its full potential. After over a decade in
the events and PR industry we have seen first hand that these events
are well managed and executed and the support it brings to not only
the music industry but to arts and culture as a whole. We would be
pleased to advocate on behalf of the organisers in this submission

conditional upon the following concerns being recognised and acted
upon. The events increase the local population dramatically so action
to 1. ensure local traffic flows, especially at the intersection of
Tweed valley way and Shara Boulevarde must be maintained 2 ensure that
cleaning up the local environment of any detritus is carried out, 3.
ensure that the notorious internet/ telecommunication black spot
issues are not worsened by the crowd use of these resources. This is a
major concern for locals. 4. Maintain support for local community &
school organisations. This has been positive thus far. 5. Ensure
constructive engagement with a local consultative group, that does
involve listening and a serious response to issues. Suggestion: Please
consider incorporating cycle infrastructure into the concept plans.
The site would be ideal for recreational bike riders as it is free of
public traffic. Local roads are often narrow and potentially unsafe. A
program to assist public health via cycle tracks within the site will
be well received and enormously beneficial to many people of all ages
in the local community.

than 50000 proposed and monthly events 2/ the local roads and
infrastructure cannot handle this, too many tourists in the shire
already. Additional buses and traffic already generated. Check the
potholes on bus routes. 2/ Sewerage facilities and waste treatment not
dealt with. 3/ Substantial risk of fire, flood and more importantly
security/terrorist risk, limited evacuation provided. 4/ Loss of
amenity for locals, noise issues ongoing. 5/
Hotel/bar/accommodation/conference centre not in original plans. 6/
What started as a once a year x 3 day event now a mega development. 7/
Local Council no control over compliance, approvals and reviews.

from Brisbane to escape the city noise and distractions, I was
dismayed when the North Byron Parklands were developed after I had
purchased my quiet corner of the Tweed Shire in Upper Burringbar.
Unfortunately for me, due to the location of the main stage and the
direction of the sound system and the huge speakers, I find that
although I am kilometres away, I am subjected to the booming bass line
during festival times. I find this very stressful. I wouldn't mind
whatever events are held at the Parklands if only the sound levels
were reduced. My younger daughter is a festival worker, attending many
festivals around the country and has to wear earplugs when working.
Why does the sound have to be so loud that it impacts everyone...from
festival-goers to surrounding residents? As a menber of the Burringbar
Community Association we met last year with the festival organisers
who heard our feedback regarding noise and traffic issues. A promise
was made to amend the volume of the bass sound, but during the recent
Falls Festival, that noise was heard way up the Burringbar Valley,
where it had never reached before. (And this from a local resident of
43 years!) At my property it is heard as a thumping booming vibration,
not pleasant to hear late into the night especially. It's not music
that is heard, just the thumping. We are told that the sound levels
are monitored, but that doesn't seem to be the case from my position.
I am opposed to any further events like this being held if my nerves
are subjected to any more of this!

and cleanup; offer minimal disruption the locals and is far outweighed
by the influx of visitors and $ to the local community. The grounds
are well maintained and also offer ongoing employment for a number of
Full time and casual employees. Any number of small concerns depend on
the 2 main events every year to keep them in the black. Once lost, it
will never return and millions of dollars injected into the local
community will be lost forever. With ongoing planning and involvement
of environmental persons, any short term impact on the parklands wild
life and environment is minor compared to Farming or clearing or
industrial development; and helps to maintain a safe corridor and path
for wildlife to use.

events and opportunities, across a broad selection of events,
exhibitions and performances. The Byron Shire is fortunate enough that
a large proportion of our population share a creative spirit, which
makes our community unique on a world stage. This application allows
the Byron Shire community access to cultural events that metropolitan
people have on a regular basis. I fully endorse this application that
will nurture and further enhance the cultural dynamic of the unique
area.

boast of having an internationally recognised cultural event like this
on our door step. it only adds value to this beautiful part of the

a suitable venue. After much assessment and planning, the NBP site is
such a venue for the many reasons stated in the application. I have
read with interest the in depth studies that have been undertaken to
ensure that the premise of this location was not at the loss of other
unknowns. I understand that there will always be a NIMBY factor in any
development of this scale, but this must be balanced by what is for
the greater good of all and with a view to compensation of those who
stand to be disadvantaged along the way. I believe this has been
adhered to. In the absence of this application going ahead in it's
full scope, are we to begin the process again and at what cost? The
time has definitely come to move ahead with this project and not be
hamstrung by a self-interested minority. Change is inevitable but we
have an opportunity to manage that change well, and that is what I
feel should be done. Expanding the scope of use to allow smaller scale
events and utilising the facilities for low/no impact usage would seem
logical and common sense, especially with regard to local employment
and industry.
