It is in a good, central location. Close to both Brisbane and Gold Coast,
but a bit more south for those people who live south. You cannot have
every major festival/event in a major city like Brisbane or Sydney, it
makes it more inaccessible to more people.

This is a great area for creative arts to be held, it takes pressure of
town.

I live in New Brighton, which is around 6 min drive from the North Byron
Parklands site, I have never experienced any negative impact on my
residence during any of the festival periods. Splendour in the Grass
occurs in the winter, which is a terribly quiet time for local
businesses in the shire, a number of my neighbours plan their annual
holidays around this time, with the holiday letting income they
receive funding their yearly overseas trips to escape the winter. It
is also a huge injection of cash into a seasonal economy that relies
on tourism, based on the beach and warm weather. To have this influx
in the middle of winter literally saves a number of small businesses
and service providers from going under. Falls Festival provides a
contained safe space with entertainment over the New Year period.
Historically Byron Bay has been a nightmare on NYE due to an influx of
people wanting to party in town. The strategies of tickets dedicated
to local people have taken the pressure off Byron town centre,
offering world-class entertainment in a space that is set up for harm
minimization, that is paid for by the event, taking pressure off local
emergency services at this busy period. These events draw world-class
performers, and celebrities who talk about their experience in the
area in international media, this kind of coverage is priceless for
tourism, at no cost to the local or state tourism bodies, it is all
free. These events also raised and donate much-needed funds to small
local community groups that are often overlooked when it comes to
access to government funds, this money is vital and sometimes the last
resort to keep the group going. The work that has been put into the
North Byron Parklands site is continually evolving with the latest
innovative ideas around sustainability and harm minimization being
implemented and updated year after year, permanency will allow that
work to continue. North Byron Parklands is fast becoming an example of
a sustainable, community-focused event space that the global event
industry will be able to look to as an example of best practice. Also,
I really love music, being able to have the opportunity to see
internationally renowned acts play alongside young local artists from
the Shire is something I don't want to lose.

I wish to make a submission to support making North Byron Parklands the
permanent home for Splendour in the Grass and Falls Festival Byron,
along with smaller cultural and community events. These festivals are
now such a part of the cultural landscape here in the Northern Rivers
and I believe that Parklands is the perfect site to host them.

I believe North Byron Parklands is a perfect venue for these events as
the layout of these events are in an organised fashion and easy for
patrons to navigate around. Furthermore, North Byron Parklands is
accessible to a large group of people across Australia.

TBM strongly support North Byron Parklands' application for permanency
and feel that the influx of both staff and patrons for the Events are
a huge benefit to the region. This application covers important issues
such as noise, traffic and ecology, something which is rare to see in
an application that has considered and responded to such diverse range
of issues. Local business owners of accommodation, retail outlets,
restaurants and cafes would agree that the increased patronage during
the Festivals is certainly welcomed. The teams have done an
outstanding job in managing any environmental impacts, and all have
worked very hard to improve traffic, sound and community amenity along
the way. Granting permanency for Parklands is an exciting prospect for
Byron as it provides employment, tourism and cultural experiences. We
strongly believe and urge the State Government of NSW to approve this
application

I believe that Parklands should become a permanent venue for music,
culture and arts site as it attracts many tourists to our area that
support local businesses. The venue itself creates employment
opportunities and gives Byron Bay a cultural hub for popular events
such as Splendor In The Grass and The Falls Festival. Thank you

I love North Byron Parklands - it's become a world-class venue location,
managed lovingly by eco-aware caretakers who have nurtured the land
for years now with some excellent environmental outcomes. I believe
the venue also has an important part to play in the local community in
terms of economy, culture and community itself. Cultural tourism is a
massive industry, and the festivals provide a huge amount of
employment. Local stallholders, artists, crew, staff and contractors
all benefit well. As do all types of accomodation houses, vehicle hire
companies, private and public transport, restaurants and cafe's,
retailers, local charities and professional services. The team at
North Byron Parklands are all locals, and are committed to providing
their community with as much opportunity as possible, respectfully and
professionally. It would be a devastating loss to the regional if the
Parklands were forced to shut down their activities, and I would be
very sad to see it go.

I support NBP's application for permanency. The festivals and events held
by the site bring people from far and wide into our community,
boosting the economy of local businesses, etc. The music festivals are
also spectacular to attend!

Because it brings economic prosperity & jobs to the region that it may
not otherwise have. Byron parklands are the perfect set up for events
such as Falls festival and Splendour in the Grass, a perfect mix in
nature and a beautiful setting and it would doing the place an
injustice to not use it to its full potential.

I believe the SSD 8169 submission is of great benifit to the community on
an economic and environmental level. The government should support at
least three festivals in this region. The current two festivals bring
approx $42 million in direct funding to the community. The efforts to
rebuild the ecosystem has been significant. I support this
application.

I support Parklands' application to become a permanent cultural site with
events up to 50,000 people. I support the application for a number of
reasons. First, having live music festivals like Splendour so close to
my home is brilliant. Secondly, I see the economic benefits that
Splendour and Falls brings to our local store in South Golden Beach.
The shop does its best business during the festivals. Third, all of
our local schools and sporting groups have received thousands of
dollars in community grants from the festivals so they can buy new
equipment. My friends and I want more things to go to, there's not
much to do here if you're under 18 and don't surf or skate. Public
transport is useless here so it's hard to get to anything good. I
think Parklands should be allowed to have more events for all ages. On
top of what they're asking for, it would be great if there could be
even more smaller events through the year, like outdoor cinema -
events where tickets don't cost as much as the big festivals. Thanks
for reading.

I believe that Parklands should become a permanent cultural /
entertainment space for Northern Rivers residents and beyond due to
the positive impact and significance of the events held on the site. I
have attended music events on the site and been hired by events on the
site as an author to share stories with children. I know of other
local storytellers, musicians, actors, speakers and performers of all
kinds who have benefited from employment and cultural enrichment
thanks to Parklands and I would hate to see the events held there move
to another region. Our area thrums with creative energy. Our `brand'
as a region is very much about events like Splendour, Falls, Writers
Fest and Blues. This has great cultural and economic benefit to all of
us living here and we enjoy employment and world-class entertainment
that many regional areas miss out on. I have been on tours of the site
and have been so impressed with the way the space is cared for and
nurtured. It is a beautiful piece of land made more stunning by the
energy and investment made by Parklands. I urge you to approve the use
of the site as a permanent entertainment and cultural space. Yours
sincerely, Tristan Bancks www.tristanbancks.com

We are in favour of the site being retained for it's current use. We have
always found the response to suggestions regarding safety / traffic
concerns prompt and communication great. We have witnessed changes
made overnight in some instances by Festival organisers to better
systems in place, and the constant focus on improvements to the smooth
running and environmental impact challenges positive and embracing
integrity.
