I object to the Powerhouse Parramatta project because of the following:

1/ I work in an historical building and unfortunately too many buildings that relate to our past are knocked down for the sake of development

2/ Willow Grove and St Georges Terrace are the only examples within the Parramatta precinct of the style of building.

3/ To demolish heritage listed buildings seems self-defeating – why list them in the first place? Could they not be repurposed into the Parramatta councils vision of a public square along the river?

4/ To not even have them integrated into the Powerhouse proposal seems very odd. In Washington DC they have integrated old buildings into the new building developments which allows the general public to see what the old buildings were like and maintain that link to history.

5/ Could not the Powerhouse be integrated into the Cumberland Hospital precinct where the female factory and other historical buildings are?

I object to the Powerhouse Parramatta project because as a resident for 20 years I feel Parramatta needs to maintain its cultural heritage for future generations. A

In the governments own reports it states : Willow Grove and St Georges Terrace are one of a kind in the Parramatta CBD and their lose would have a significant impact on the community's connection with heritage"

Please
Keep the Powerhouse Museum at Ultimo
Create a brilliant Museum and cultural destination at historic Cumberland Hospital Precinct in North Parramatta.
Save historic Willow Grove & St Georges Terraces, and realise the existing Parramatta Council vision for a public square alongside the river

I object to the Powerhouse Parramatta project because there is so little of our heritage left intact and Parramatta , being one of the first settlements here, should be protected more than just about any city in this country.

There would be multiple sights on which to put another Powerhouse Museum that you could comandeer. It seems ironic that you want to destroy our history in order to erect a museum about that history.

I ask you to please reconsider this retrograde move that will lose so much and gain very little.

I object to the Powerhouse Parramatta project because..

As a naturalised Australian I feel strongly about preserving our history, and there very few far in between examples of that in Parramatta and in any other area.

It is also crazy to want to build a museum in a flood zone area as well as the fact that is important to protect our heritage for our young’s development, appreciation and respect of the past.

I fully support the North Parramatta Residents Action group and as a Parramatta rate payer I believe my opinion should be taken into account.

I object to the Powerhouse Parramatta project because..
It is an unnecessary waste of money. There is an existing museum, promote that better. Give discount travel if they purchase tickets to museum to encourage visitors, much more fiscally responsible than spending millions on a new building.
The destruction of an historic building simply beggars belief.

Let’s leave a legacy that our descendants can be proud of not shaking their heads at.

I believe preserving our heritage is off the utmost importance and demolishing Willow Grove and St Georges terrace will be a grave mistake. There are other suitable sites within Parramatta for the Powerhouse Museum to be built, including the Cumberland Hospital Precinct.

Please reconsider demolishing these beautiful buildings.

I object to the Powerhouse Parramatta project because it involves demolition of buildings of historic importance. It makes a mockery of Heritage listing when the Government can sweep it aside to suit its purposes. It gives precedent to private developers to ignore such listings. I also disagree with the concept of removing such buildings and rebuilding them elsewhere. It takes away their authenticity, and eliminates the history of why and how they were built there in the first place. There is little enough heritage left in this country, it is up to Governments to protect and preserve it, not wipe it out for a project that has such a large amount of opposition. Please listen to the people.

I object to the Powerhouse Parramatta project because..
I do not believe we need to destroy heritage in order to create a museum in Parramatta; in many ways our second settlement IS a museum and we could have a great museum in the precinct with the Female factory or the amazing Parramatta jail.
We need to hold on to beautiful properties like Willow grove and the Georgian terraces in particular because a museum on the river site is a flood risk and they would be demolished pointlessly.

Please make it a priority to always preserve our historic buildings and listen to the community - having lost our pool and the Royal Oak regardless of their value to residents, it is imperative to us that this loss of heritage and public spaces does not continue.

Parramatta should be a place of integrity and value to the entire country as the home of our government for the first 50 years and as such can in fact support tourism, commercial activity and a vital community without loss of character and much loved and irreplaceable sites.

object to the Powerhouse Parramatta project as it is because it entails the wanton destruction of two of this City’s and State’s most significant heritage buildings, Willow Grove and St Georges Terrace.
Whilst I am totally in favour of the concept that people in the West should have their own version of the Powerhouse Museum whilst the original one has rightly been allowed to remain in Ultimo, there is another location at the Cumberland Hospital Precinct in North Parramatta. That alternative location will not be prone to flooding as the presently intended site will be and will be positioned more closely to where our colony had its roots from its beginnings back in pre-colonisation days and subsequently when the colonists set up our city.
Please save these buildings and avoid a potentially damaging and divisive campaign where the community and unions will dig in and oppose the government to the bitter end.

I object to the Powerhouse Parramatta project for a number of reasons.

The current Powerhouse Museum in Ultimo is one of the top ten attractions in Sydney, and is easily accessible from anywhere, and especially for tourists. Visitors will not spend time to travel to Parramatta, if they are only in Sydney for a week. Schools visit Ultimo every day, but Parramatta is not as accessible for school trips.

But also create a new, exciting Museum and cultural destination at historic Cumberland Hospital Precinct in North Parramatta…..relevant to the Parramatta area.

Willow Grove and St Georges Terrace are major heritage sites – we have already seen the destruction of the historic Windsor Bridge by this NSW Government....no care for the heritage values there, and no care taken to protect the unique history.....just destroyed – it is heart-breaking. These two Parramatta buildings must be retained....a city does not need to be all modern concrete. My children and grandchildren need to have the ability to see history for themselves, not just read about it in a book.

Save historic Willow Grove & St Georges Terraces, and realise the existing Parramatta Council vision for a public square alongside the river.

Do not continue to destroy the heritage in Sydney and NSW

I object to the Powerhouse Parramatta project because it is destroying the fabric of OUR local history. That is a magnificent building to be ruined to have a '2nd' Pumphouse Museum.
Put it somewhere else that would be just as easily accessible.

I object to the Powerhouse Parramatta project because I believe there is a need to retain historic buildings such as Willow Grove and St George's Terrace. I find it inconceivable that in order to display something that is old or from our past history that an historic/old building is to be demolished. It is totally hypocritical and bewildering! We need to save these buildings for our future generations.

I object to the Powerhouse Parramatta project because this project will destroy two historic buildings- St Georges Terrace and Willow Grove. Parramatta is a City with an important historical contribution to the settlement and growth of Australia- not just Sydney and NSW.
These two buildings are examples of our history and we don't have a long history of European settlement and what we do seem not important to some of our politicians given the destruction that continues to happen.
I have no objection to a new fabulous Museum in Parramatta but just not on this site.
When I travel I am always impressed by the age of buildings that are still being used not just for tourists to visit but as commercial and residential buildings. I'm sure these two buildings could be repurposed rather than destroyed.
It was fantastic news to hear that the Powerhouse will stay in Ultimo so please let's have some more fantastic news that two historical buildings will remain to tell our story to future generations.

I object to the Powerhouse Parramatta project because we have a wonderful Powerhouse museum in Sydney, which only requires a major interior overhaul to bring it up to date, many examples overseas demonstrate how by doing this museums flourish.
I also object to the demolition of historic buildings in Parramatta to build an unwanted building on a badly chosen site.
Thirdly I think with consultation with Parramatta Council it would be possible to spend the money on restoring many of Paramatta’s historic buildings, and providing a public swimming pool which perhaps is part of a Parramatta cultural centre and museum, one which demonstrates the uniqueness of the local area.

I object to the Powerhouse Parramatta project because..

Parramatta has already suffered many loses, including recently The Royal Oak Hotel and old established trees. Please do not demolish these historic houses, Willow Grove and St George’s Terraces! They can never be replaced once they are gone.

Regarding the proposed demolition of Willow Grove and St George’s Terraces, Jack Mundy has been applauded for saving many significant historic sites yet, ironically, they are still being destroyed.

The Parramatta Powerhouse should not be built on yet another significant Indigenous site when so many have been historically disrespectfully been ruined.

The cost is exorbitant when the economy is in such bad shape due to Covid. Now is not the time to waste money.

The old Powerhouse should be retained. It is an iconic building, easy to get to by public transport and the exhibition is already there. Let’s hope the government doesn’t back flip on this announcement.

Moving such large and delicate objects is a major concern.

There will be a loss of jobs at the Ultimo Powerhouse and business in the surrounding area will be affected if it goes.

There are problems with safely housing precious exhibits in satisfactory museum conditions in the planned Parramatta Powerhouse. Also, there is a possibility of flooding on the proposed site.

Please build a museum in Western Sydney on another site that doesn’t involve the destruction of more of our heritage buildings. Also, leave the existing Powerhouse where it is at its significant site, as there is no valid reason to move it.

I object to the Powerhouse Parramatta project because in the current location we are going to lose the beautiful historic Willow Grove and the amazing St Georges Terraces.
I think a museum at Parramatta is totally warranted but destroying these historic building is a complete vandalism. History is there for a reason it's educational and talks about our cultural heritage and shared roots.
Please spare these wonderful buildings. Let the Parramatta city councils realise it's vision of a brilliant public square alongside the river.

It would be possible to create a brilliant Museum and cultural destination at historic Cumberland Hospital Precinct in North Parramatta.

There are many other opportunities in Parramatta that are deserving of a new power house museum.

Thank you for your kind consideration

I object to the Powerhouse Parramatta project because of the proposed destruction of Willow Grove and St George’s Terrace. These beautiful historic buildings should be preserved for future generations to see, appreciate and learn from. Such places are our access to our past, our link to our social and cultural history and must be respected and treasured.

To destroy these Heritage Listed buildings would be an irrevocable action - the past cannot be rebuilt. If we can’t value and learn from our past, what hope has our future? What is the point of having Heritage Listings if they can be overturned - what would the future think of this violation of their inheritance?

There is a real irony in destroying our past history to build a new museum to house future historical items!

Our history and our heritage must be preserved. Build a new museum in Nth Parramatta, and retain Willow Grove and St George’s Terrace - thus maintaining the connection with our culture and our heritage.
In the governments own reports it states:
"Willow Grove and St Georges Terrace are one of a kind in the Parramatta CBD and their lose would have a significant impact on the community's connection with heritage"
