On 22 June 2023, NSW Planning issued an Official Caution to Warkworth Mining Ltd (WML) for exceeded noise impact assessment criteria at three noise monitoring locations for the Warkworth Continuation Project on 20 July 2022. WML had failed to implement their approved Noise Management Plan on the night of 20 July 2022 in the lead up to the exceedances. WML have since implemented measures to ensure compliance with their management plan and NSW Planningcontinues to monitor WML's noise reporting data and implementation of the NMP.

It is vital for the direct 1300 employees of the site, and the indirect 1000's of businesses the MTW operation engage with.
The employees' of MTW engage with businesses right through the Hunter Valley, and wider surrounding area, including Central coast, Port Stephens and Great Lakes.

I consider myself a permanent resident of Singleton having lived here for close to 35 years and having raised my family locally. I don't consider myself as "transient". I have been actively involved in the community over that period and still plan to be a contributer. A lot of this will depend on the approval.
The coal mining industry is of key importance locally and nationally. It provides great employment opportunities for all types of people including our youth. Having travelled abraod recently, I've seen the negative impacts of unemployment in Europe and Africa. To loose 1300 jobs is a major loss that will impact on many lives. This should be of major concern to government at all levels and the local community.
Working at MTW, I've contributed to the many initiatives to improve various aspects of MTW's performance. There is commitment from all levels in this regards.
The continued uncertainty of the MTW approval plus the industry uncertainty is not healthy for our community. The mental aspect of these issues has not really been considered to date.
Regards,
John Capsanis

Mining supports the state economy and the local economy.
This case if lost will expedite the demise of the mining industry in NSW and that is not acceptable, there is a tremendous amount of investment in capital and training that supports the industry both directly by Rio Tinto and in directly by the contractors and supplieers servicing the industry.
Further, this is about community, the lives of Australians who share their aspirations and dreams with their families and mates all made possible by stable employment.
Lets us not forget we are the most efficient miners in the world, once you shut this mine you provide opportunity for a another less efficient country to supply the short fall.
Please ensure you support and keep strong the NSW Mining Industry.

1. As an employee at MTW my role and future employement will rely on this application being approved. All businesses in the Hunter Valley area rely in some form on the work and money generated by the mining industry and to loose employment at MTW would almost certainly result in me having to relocate not just myself but my family to ensure employment. Being born and bred in the area with a large family nucleus around, this would be difficult.
2. As a resident and born and bred local, I have seen first hand the opportunities the indusrty brings to the area. Not just for myslef and my family but for the wider community, businesses, sporting groups and community support groups have all benefited through direct work, sponsorship, donoations etc.
3. The future of Singleton and the wider Hunter Valley will suffer at the demise of the mining industry. Opportunities for my childeren and their children will be less and less with the vast majority moving away from the area to ensure security and a future for there own families.
