Enforcements

On 22 June 2023, NSW Planning issued an Official Caution to Warkworth Mining Ltd (WML) for exceeded noise impact assessment criteria at three noise monitoring locations for the Warkworth Continuation Project on 20 July 2022.  WML had failed to implement their approved Noise Management Plan on the night of 20 July 2022 in the lead up to the exceedances. WML have since implemented measures to ensure compliance with their management plan and NSW Planningcontinues to monitor WML's noise reporting data and implementation of the NMP.

The impacts felt if MTW does not secure approval to continue will be far reaching across the entirety of the Hunter Valley. This is an awful time for our region and I believe that anxiety felt is widespread. It is a monumental decision and impacts the future of mining in the Hunter Valley. It is an impact that will be felt by the current generation - and all generations to come.

Mount Thorley Warkworth must continue for the future of mining in the Hunter Valley. If this does not occur, MTW wil not be able to sustain its current levels of productions. The end result of this that jobs will be cut. The current level of production will only be able to be sustained until the end of 2015 if the approval does not eventuate. This means jobs in mining for the current generation - and all future generations - are not realisable in the Hunter Valley. The impact of this will be widespread.

I have been employed at MTW for 25 years of my 35 year mining career. The end of my career is drawing nearer but I would like to see future generations have the same job opportunity and longevity as I have had at MTW. The approval of the extension MTW is crucial for those that have current employment at the site and for the many other companies and personnel that provide support functions to the mine. Not only a benefit to those directly involved with the mine but also the wider community where we live and support local shops, businesses, schools, hospital, aged care, sport and social activities just to mention a few. I think it is vitally important that the extension proposal be appoved and without delay for the well being of those that are employed, those that will be employed and the wider community.

Basically ive been employed at MTW for 6 years. I need and enjoy the position I perform within the company. My income from this job supports myself, wife and 3 kids. I have no other major qualifications to gain decent wage oppertunities outside the mining industry so my famiy will suffer greatly should the MTW extention not go ahead and the possibly of job cuts come to play.
This pit and industry support so many people inside and outside the mine. I do believe that shold we not get the extention the local economy will suffer greatly. Tourism and farming is not enough to keep the Hunter Valley prosperous alone.

I work for a s a contract operator at Mt Thorley/Warkworth open cut mine and have done so for over 3 years. I support my family through this work and also support local businesses. I am aged 55 and may find it difficult to find another job if my continued employment at MTW does not continue. I support MTW's submission for extension as it will benefit me and my family as well as the economy of the Hunter Valley.

I support the submission for an extension to the MTW mine. I feel that this mine supports the local communities through donations, taxes and the direct employment of over 1000 employees. These employees also form part of the communities in which they live and participate. Additionally, the mine supports many local businesses and many more employees indirectly. I am able to support my wife and two children as a result of my employment at MTW. I feel i may have to relocate from the area if this mine extension is not approved and i am forced to look for other employment opportunities.

I strongly support the expansion of the MTW site as it is my current work place of employment and i rely on it to provide for my family. if it is not approved it will not only affect me but my family. I also really enjoy working here. MTW also supports lots of local business and they would also be impacked if the expansion doesnt go through.

Allowing the extension to go thru for MTW not only secures the jobs of the employees at Mount thorley Warkworth but also the employees of all the support companies that are involved within the mining industry. Disapproving this when then force people to move from the valley away from family to find work this will also affect local business which will have a huge impact on the valley

The extension is vital to support my family as my husband is losing his job in October. Our livelihood relies heavily on the mining industry.
MTW is a great place to work and provides income for 1300 people.
With the current downturn in the mining industry MTW definetely needs this extension tom keep local communties

the approval of this extension is very important to singleton and the hunter valley.the loss of jobs for permanant employees contractors and suppliers will create a big down turn in all types of buisness in the valley not just the mining sector, the towns will be ghost towns.
