Enforcements

On 22 June 2023, NSW Planning issued an Official Caution to Warkworth Mining Ltd (WML) for exceeded noise impact assessment criteria at three noise monitoring locations for the Warkworth Continuation Project on 20 July 2022.  WML had failed to implement their approved Noise Management Plan on the night of 20 July 2022 in the lead up to the exceedances. WML have since implemented measures to ensure compliance with their management plan and NSW Planningcontinues to monitor WML's noise reporting data and implementation of the NMP.

I work at MTW, I am in a support role at present. If the approval is not given to extend the life of the mine then production will be reduced and my position made redundant. I moved into the area, we are a single income family, we shop locally, use local services. My eldest daughter goes to high school in singleton and my baby girl goes to many programs offered for infants in the area. I fear that if the extension does not go through then our time is limited in the area, another family leaving the area to find work.

Hello.
My name is Cameron Carmody and I am writing this letter to express my family's and my support for Rio Tinto's proposed mining lease extension at Warkworth, N.S.W.
We live in the Hunter Valley and our family needs the extension to be approved.
Mining in the Hunter Valley provides so many jobs to people from the Valley, not only people employed directly by the mines but also the businesses that rely on business from the mining companies. I am one of those people employed in Hunter Valley mining.
We hear in the news that businesses right around Australia are struggling and job losses are being felt everywhere, for example Holden, Ford, Australia Post and Qantas. Without this extension being approved I am afraid that the Warkworth mine will become another large workplace to close down and the large number of job losses that will follow. This would be a massive blow to the Hunter Valley, and to N.S.W.
I wish to acknowledge the fact that mining has a social and environmental impact to which mining companies need to be thoughtful of. I can from firsthand account say that I constantly witness Rio Tinto's efforts to minimise these impacts on the surrounding towns. They make great efforts to reduce dust and noise pollution whenever necessary, even stopping mining for whatever period of time is needed over a shift to manage these impacts. These efforts need to be commended and I am sure if the extension is approved, Rio Tinto will continue managing these impacts in the same manor.
In conclusion I would once again like to express my full level of support for Rio Tinto's Warkworth coal mine extension. Without it my family will surely suffer.
Yours Sincerely,
Cameron Carmody.

I have been employed at MTW now for 9 years. To lose my job does not only affect me, but also my entire family including my ability to house and support my elderly mother. Job losses would also impact the small business community of Branxton which we rely on without the need to travel distances for basic requirements

I totally support the approval of the planned lease for Mt Thorley Warkworth. I am married with two children under three. My wife and I are both employees at Mt Thorley Warkworth and our future is directly dependent on the mine's extension being approved.
As first home owner's the impact of the mine's closure will be disastrous to us. We will be forced to sell at a massive loss, our children will need to be withdrawn from day care and we will need to relocate to try and find employment opportunities elsewhere - that won't be easy. Employment opportunities in the Hunter Valley will be further reduced due to the flow on effects of Mt Thorley Warkworth's closure.
In an already struggling coal industry it is appalling that this major Hunter Valley employer is under threat of closure due to extension difficulties. It is absolutely imperative that Mt Thorley Warkworth be awarded its extension, for without it the impacts on our own lives and the communities that depend on the mine will be catastrophic.
The impacts of Mt Thorley Warkworth's closure will far surpass that of it's 1300 employees. In my opinion the flow on effects are way greater than we can predict, it sickens me think of an actual number. Two years ago the mine was forced to make cost cuts, that in itself had a huge impact on the community and the mine was still operational. I hate to think what will become of the community if the whole mine was to close. It will be a disaster.
We love living in the Hunter Valley for its tranquillity, entertainment, education, accessibility and opportunity. The Mt Thorley Warkworth mine allows us to enjoy what the Hunter Valley offers and to give back to it, take the mine away from us and both ourselves and the Hunter Valley will suffer greatly - guaranteed!!
Lets support the planning and plan for a brighter future for all, even the complainers.

I support the contionation of the Wt Thorley warkworth project.
I have worked here for over 4 years and have a young family of 3 children 5,4 and 2. Without the contionation of this project and the money it brings no only to my family but to the local area will have a huge impact and more job and local companies will close or be made to leave the area.

The approval for the continuation of operations at Mount Thorley Warkworth is critical both to myself, my family and my 1300 fellow employees. This approval also has a major flow on effect for local buisness from bakeries to manufacturing corporations that support our site and its employees and thier families.

The down turn in the industries around the hunter valley has impacted a great deal on every one from the corner store to the major super markets all the way down to kids sports as people are worried . so it is in my opinion that if the mtw extensions dont go ahead it will not only effect my self but my fellow work colleges and the greater communities

I support the continuation of MTW mine. The mine supports around 1300 directly and thousands indirectly. The current downturn which has already seen many job loses, has begun to have a flow on effect on local business, with a Singleton electrical goods store recently announcing they will be closing. The Mount Lyell Copper mine in Queenstown Tasmania which has announced its mine will no longer be operational, is having a huge economic effect on the town with some local businesses reporting a 20% drop in sales, and unemployment in the area set to skyrocket. Queenstown is a case study for the region
Singleton and the Hunter Valley need the Warkworth continuation approved to secure jobs and the local economy.

I have been employed at the Mt Thorley Warkworth mine for four years now and in that time my family and I had settled into the area and established a home and a life style of which we are very fond of. My position here at Mt Thorley Warkworth is one that gives me the opportunity to be with my family and support them financially and them a good life in an excellent environment. If the mine was to close down not only would I lose my job I may also have seek employment much further afield ie: fly in fly out leaving my family on their own for long periods of time, this is something that would be very difficult on all of us.
