Penalty Notice issued to Mt Thorley Pty Ltd (SSD-6465, Singleton Shire LGA)

On 13 August 2021, the Department issued a $15,000 Penalty Notice to Mt Thorley Pty Ltd (Mt Thorley) for failing to ensure that no mine water is discharged from the Mt Thorley Warkworth mine complex.  A rainfall event on 4-6 January 2021 resulted in a mine water dam overtopping and mine water discharging from site.  An investigation by the Department concluded that Mt Thorley failed to design and maintain the mine water dams to comply with water management performance measures. Mt Thorley has committed to reviewing their water management infrastructure and their Water Management Plan to ensure no mine water is discharged from site.

I support the MT Thorley moderfication cause i think the impact on the 1300 imployies would be horrible if they lost there job not only to them self but there familys and the community that they support. Not only the familyes would suffer from the impact but the industry that the mine itself would suffer also.

I am supporting the continuation of Mt Thorley as i believe the local as well as the state economy can not afford to have any more mass unemployment. My family as well as many others in the valley will have to leave to search for further employment.

I am married with four children and a mortgage. With the only wage coming into the household it is critical that i stay employed in the mining industry as it is the only field that i have worked in for the last thirty years. My children are all still at school and nearing fifty years of age will have dificulty finding another job

As my family is dependent on the on the Minging industry being employed directly in the mining industry or working for business that rely on the mining industry, it is important that the approve is given. Having my partner loss his job within the next couple of weeks I will become the sole income earner in our house hold. If the extension is not granted the community of Singleton as a whole will suffer. It is already having an effect on Singleton. With loss of jobs already being seen within the community.

As a trainee operator employed by Resco Services, my entry into a career in mining relies heavily on the approval of the current applications by RTCA for the continuation of the Warkworth Mining extension and the Mount Thorley Modification.

In my successful aplication for this employment I relocated to the Singleton area as a full time resident. My employment is not only impacted by this approval but also my residence in the immediate area. This in turn has an effect on the local econemy as my wages are predominently spent in the local community which supports local business and employment.

I think we should proceed with the extension because without it i think the local communities would struggle .From your bakeries, pubs, caryards, and realestates all of the buisnesses rely in somepart of the mineworker.I want to know where does it stop ,deny us and in few years we close 1300 people gone Bulga coal same thing Drayton coal same, what do we do where do we work.So until you have an alternative power source which is nowhere in sight i cant see how you can deny us.That is why i support the MTW extension

I believe that without the extension for mtw that the local community will suffer greatly, the economic benefit that mtw currently provides is greatly required, not just to the pit workers but to the local trades people and businesses. Without this I feel that these local trades and businesses will also diminish leaving plenty of people unemployed in the local area.

I totally support the approval of the planned lease for MTW. I am married and a working mother of two children. My husband and I are employees of RTCA. Our present and future depends on our job security.
If we, like 1300 other RTCA employees were to relocate interstate in search of work this would have a dramatic impact on the local economy in the Hunter Valley. The local community will suffer and cripple so many businesses. As a result an increase of unemployment will be at an infinitely high number, far too many for the Government to manage. This will be a catastrophy to say the least. The flow on effect will be detrimental as local education institutes from daycare to college will see closures, all community services will cease, local supermarkets and trades and the like will close, to name a few. The Hunter Valley will be abandoned leaving only empty building structures. The economy at local, state and government levels will suffer significantly. If the mine is forced to close this will be an absolute absurdity.
Lets support the planning and plan for a brighter future for all.
