Enforcements

On 22 June 2023, NSW Planning issued an Official Caution to Warkworth Mining Ltd (WML) for exceeded noise impact assessment criteria at three noise monitoring locations for the Warkworth Continuation Project on 20 July 2022.  WML had failed to implement their approved Noise Management Plan on the night of 20 July 2022 in the lead up to the exceedances. WML have since implemented measures to ensure compliance with their management plan and NSW Planningcontinues to monitor WML's noise reporting data and implementation of the NMP.

Without this expansion, significant job cuts will result and the local community will be devastated beyond belief. This will have a flow on effect throughout all of Newcastle and the Hunter Valley.

I believe this submission is important:

to the people who work at Thorley

to the local community who benefit from the workers at Thorley

to the Local Government, who get indirect taxes from rate payers

to the NSW government, who also get indirect taxes

to the Australian government who get direct taxes

to the large amount of third party mining related workers who depend on the extension to stay in work

My employment depends directly on the approval of this submission. I live locally and spend my money locally so others will be indirectly affected by this submissions fate. The whole of the Newcastle area indirectly relies upon mining and therefore the passing of such submissions. Personally I have a dependent disabled child and another child and could not easily replace this employment.

Australia has mining, and what else to support her??? What will we all do if this and other submissions fail? Where does the government money used to do things for the community come from without a workforce paying taxes. Australia has mining...

I am employed by a contracting company that contracts to the Mt Thorley Warkworth Mine , my job and jobs of my friends and work collegues will be threatened if this mine does not go ahead. The effect will pass down the line to businesses in the area. the area is already suffering with the down turn to the mining industry.

MTW has been a major job provider for the Hunter Valley since the 1980s. It has the potential to continue doing so for at least 3 more decades if an adequate and reliable approval framework is in place.
I am asking the Government to support MTW's Warkworth Extension application and do everything to give coal miners a future in the Hunter Valley.

I support the extension of Warkworth Mount Thorley as I am currently employed there and without this employment I will have to relocate my family. We support the local community and without the extension not only will it affect jobs directly in the mine but the flow on effect to the community and various supply companies will be disastrous to the economy. In these tough economic times we do not need more unemployment and I believe we need a strong mining future for this area and to keep this country moving in a positive direction.

I support mining in the Singleton Area. I moved my family to this town in 2000 to take up employment in a job that was not related to the mines. I have since gained employment in the Mines. We have made this town our home. We live in the town, have purchase three different properties within the shire as our homes. Our three children attend the local schools, are involved in local sporting organisations and community groups such as town band. We have volunteered with local organisations as team mangers, coaches, Pre-school management committees, organisation committees, volunteers in the local schools helping in the canteen and with reading and school excursions. We have seen the financial support to local school and sporting bodies the mine have provided giving our children opportunities that would not be available elsewhere. This is our home and our future and our children's future. My wife works for a business that supports the mining industry. My eldest son is in year 10 and will seek an apprenticeship probably in the mines. The mining industry feeds a network of employment, business and community opportunities for Singleton which will would lost if Mt Thorley and other mine approvals were unsuccessful.

I support the Mt Thorley Warkworth application to extend the Mine. My Husband works in the Mine and I work in a support industry. We moved to Singleton in 2000 to make this town our home. We have raised our 3 children here and own our home in the town. We volunteer for the local school and community and sporting groups. Our children attend the local high school. The uncertainty of future employment is stressful. Our children are in High school and we do not wish to move them during this critical stage of their education. We feel that we are being held at ransom by a group of hypocritical people who have made their living from the mines now selfishly oppose the future, this is our town too, we aren't drive in and out. Our future and that of our children's( in their home town) is at threat.
