On 22 June 2023, NSW Planning issued an Official Caution to Warkworth Mining Ltd (WML) for exceeded noise impact assessment criteria at three noise monitoring locations for the Warkworth Continuation Project on 20 July 2022. WML had failed to implement their approved Noise Management Plan on the night of 20 July 2022 in the lead up to the exceedances. WML have since implemented measures to ensure compliance with their management plan and NSW Planningcontinues to monitor WML's noise reporting data and implementation of the NMP.

I have been employed in the mining industry for about thirty years directly and indirectly,in this time i have seen the industry develope and grow i have been invovled in the local community and have witness the ups and downs of the mining industry . The mining sector adds value to the community through employment both directly and in-directly through support industries and general business that all our families are employed either through or in,miners and the supporting industry also provide to communits projects ie sporting clubs ,schools , community events .With the jobs of 1300 people directly on the line and twice as many indirectly on the line over the approval of the Walkworth Mine extention we need to look at the affects to the whole community and approve the extention for all .

"1300 jobs depend on Mount Thorley Warkworth which has been part of the Singleton community for more than 30 years. I can only imagine what the impact would be to families who have been in the region for generations if it is not approved to continue mining. But the impact doesn't stop with the people directly employed by MTW: in 2013 alone we spent over $188 million with local businesses in the Upper Hunter. Without the continuation, impacts will be felt right across the Hunter region".

-RTCA also support numerouse amounts of community teams and charities, this would be a large loss should MTW cease operations.

I have recently transferred internally within the Rio Tinto organisation but I spent the last 6 years working at MTW, living in Singleton.
Many of the 1300 workers I remain friends with and have made many more friends in the Hunter Valley area who all rely on the mining industry, a blow to MTW would have widespread ramifications.
For the past 2 years at MTW I was working very closely with the environmental teams on the topic of noise attenuation, so I am well aware of the world leading work happening in this field, in which the company is investing considerable resources. With offsite noise one of the major factors in the approval, I am confident that MTW is not only working towards meeting a standard but setting world's best practice in the process.
Please approve the MTW Extension. It has my full support.

I have 3 young daugther that attend school in Maitland where alot of other employees children also attend school. If this extension is not approved it will have a massive wide reaching ripple effect on local community and hunter region.

The revenue that these operations bring into our communities is significant, without which many of the services that people rely on would not be there today.
Picture an Upper Hunter with no coal mines. Without this large source of employment, where will all these people work? Will they stay in the Upper Hunter? I think unlikely, all those little towns between Lochinvar, Scone and beyond start looking a lot less populated.

I support the ongoing development of MTW as a resident of Singleton. The economic impact if MTW ceased operations would be the beginning of the end for the Hunter Valley. We've already seen significant economic impact with the current downturn in the mining industry within the Hunter Valley, to lose MTW would multiply this effect. The site already operates within strict environmental conditions and will continue to do so into the future.
Thank you for your time.
