Enforcements

On 22 June 2023, NSW Planning issued an Official Caution to Warkworth Mining Ltd (WML) for exceeded noise impact assessment criteria at three noise monitoring locations for the Warkworth Continuation Project on 20 July 2022.  WML had failed to implement their approved Noise Management Plan on the night of 20 July 2022 in the lead up to the exceedances. WML have since implemented measures to ensure compliance with their management plan and NSW Planningcontinues to monitor WML's noise reporting data and implementation of the NMP.

I have been employed in the mining industry for about thirty years directly and indirectly,in this time i have seen the industry develope and grow i have been invovled in the local community and have witness the ups and downs of the mining industry . The mining sector adds value to the community through employment both directly and in-directly through support industries and general business that all our families are employed either through or in,miners and the supporting industry also provide to communits projects ie sporting clubs ,schools , community events .With the jobs of 1300 people directly on the line and twice as many indirectly on the line over the approval of the Walkworth Mine extention we need to look at the affects to the whole community and approve the extention for all .

I do support the expansion of MTW. If the expansion doesnt go ahead it will have a large impact on myself, family and friends all through the Hunter Valley.
It is a constant concern and financial worry for myself and family.

Mount Thorley Warkworth's continuation is critical for the local community including the jobs of those who work at the mine and the local businesses and surrounding community that are supported by this mine.

I support the extension project as many people in the community will lose their jobs and many others, including myself and others in Brisbane corporate office will also be in danger of losing their jobs.

I would like to mirror the comments made by Chris Salisbury, Managing Director of MTW:
"1300 jobs depend on Mount Thorley Warkworth which has been part of the Singleton community for more than 30 years. I can only imagine what the impact would be to families who have been in the region for generations if it is not approved to continue mining. But the impact doesn't stop with the people directly employed by MTW: in 2013 alone we spent over $188 million with local businesses in the Upper Hunter. Without the continuation, impacts will be felt right across the Hunter region".

These extentions need to be granted to secure the surrounding towns future. So many businesses have closed in Singleton so far because of the current situation this has led to the housing market sliding backwards and people moving away. Schools have increased class numbers and teachers leaving have not been replaced so far. The surrounding communities need the work that our industry can supply. Lets hope for a sensible outcome so this work can be continued.

Extending Warkworth provides an opportunity to retain jobs in the Hunter region at a time where neibhouring coal sites are reducing numbers or closing down altogether. This is having not only an impact on those individuals but families, the local community including businesses. This is a time where we should be doing anything to retain jobs and keep businesses running.

I believe the community of the Hunter needs this development to be approved for numerous reasons
-Growth of the area
-Economy and realestate in the area
-Employment
-RTCA also support numerouse amounts of community teams and charities, this would be a large loss should MTW cease operations.

The approval of MTW to continue operating will not only secure the job of 1,300 employees based at Hunter region but also will secure jobs to any direct and indirect contracting employees and broader Hunter region communities.

Please support us and the mine. This job supports my family and has helped me and my family build a home and future here in the Hunter, without the mining industry I would have to move away out of this area to support my family.

I would like to express my support for MTW in it's quest for approvals.

I have recently transferred internally within the Rio Tinto organisation but I spent the last 6 years working at MTW, living in Singleton.

Many of the 1300 workers I remain friends with and have made many more friends in the Hunter Valley area who all rely on the mining industry, a blow to MTW would have widespread ramifications.

For the past 2 years at MTW I was working very closely with the environmental teams on the topic of noise attenuation, so I am well aware of the world leading work happening in this field, in which the company is investing considerable resources. With offsite noise one of the major factors in the approval, I am confident that MTW is not only working towards meeting a standard but setting world's best practice in the process.

Please approve the MTW Extension. It has my full support.

I work at MTW as the Specialist Training and Development. I started at MTW 8yrs. ago as an operator and have been fortunate to be able to work my way into the position i have today. Through those years i have had the pleaseure of recruiting and training hundreds of operators from the local area with the hope that this oportunity will help them have a better future for them and their families.
I have 3 young daugther that attend school in Maitland where alot of other employees children also attend school. If this extension is not approved it will have a massive wide reaching ripple effect on local community and hunter region.

MTW employs some 1300 people from the local Hunter Valley area. These people live and work in the community with their families. With the large scale reductions at many mines across the country, it strikes me that we should be doing everything that we can to keep the remaining mines in operation.
The revenue that these operations bring into our communities is significant, without which many of the services that people rely on would not be there today.
Picture an Upper Hunter with no coal mines. Without this large source of employment, where will all these people work? Will they stay in the Upper Hunter? I think unlikely, all those little towns between Lochinvar, Scone and beyond start looking a lot less populated.

The approval will provide secure jobs both on site and within the wider community. The approval will bring stability not only to the site, but also to schools, sporting groups and businesses within the Hunter region.

To whom it may concern,
I support the ongoing development of MTW as a resident of Singleton. The economic impact if MTW ceased operations would be the beginning of the end for the Hunter Valley. We've already seen significant economic impact with the current downturn in the mining industry within the Hunter Valley, to lose MTW would multiply this effect. The site already operates within strict environmental conditions and will continue to do so into the future.
Thank you for your time.
