Enforcements

On 22 June 2023, NSW Planning issued an Official Caution to Warkworth Mining Ltd (WML) for exceeded noise impact assessment criteria at three noise monitoring locations for the Warkworth Continuation Project on 20 July 2022.  WML had failed to implement their approved Noise Management Plan on the night of 20 July 2022 in the lead up to the exceedances. WML have since implemented measures to ensure compliance with their management plan and NSW Planningcontinues to monitor WML's noise reporting data and implementation of the NMP.

The demise of MTW mine will desemate a whole community. Mining is the lifeblood of a whole community and MTW needs to remain open to support the hunter region as a whole.

Firstly the family's it would effect and upheavel and impact on kid,Dads & mums.
Secondly there is not a lot of work with the economy @ its lowest.
Thirdly the royalitys from mining company's and the taxes mine workers pay to the government; can they afford not to have that income?? I think not.....
Mining the back bone of Australia, let's keep it that way.

I support the Warkworth continuation project. I recently chose to leave my employment at Mount Thorley Warkworth and relocated my family away from Hunter Valley. Recent history and inability to gain NSW mining approvals in a timely and effcient manner was a major factor in deciding to leave as I had concerns that this situation did not provide enough job security and career prospects to support a young family.

The extension at Warkworth Coal Mine will provide my family with the opportunity to stay and work in the hunter mining industry during volatile employment and economic conditions.

Rio Tinto Coal and Allied have given me a 3 year industry based indigenous scholarship. The scholarship has funded my university expenses as well as given me practical experience for my learning at university. I value the company and have found this opportunity invaluable. I am not the single scholarship holder at MTW, the company funds and supports a number of other students from different degrees. I could possibly be a graduate in 2015 and the continuation of MTW would ensure my employment and career goals.

What would newcastle and the valley be if mines like MTW hadn't started 40 years ago. We are a city built on industrialisation and should support the industry that puts food on do many of our tables.

More than 1300 local workers and their families are at risk of unemployment and financial ruin should this extension not be successful. Myself and 1 other person from my immediate family are employed at MTW and many others by the thousands of businesses that MTW supports. Should the negative trend continue and this extension be denied; I along with hundreds or possible thousands of workers will leave the hunter valley in search for work. This loss will be heavily felt in local businesses and thus incur further job losses to Australia's already bleak employment outlook. Our schools and hospitals etc all benefit from the financial support that MTW donates to the local communities which can be seen as far as Maitland, Kurri Kurri and Cessnock where up to 30% of the workforce live.

I support the Mount Thorley Warkworth extension!!

To whom it may concern,
In the interests of employment for the MTW workforce, it is my opinion that the submission for the extention for the MTW mine go ahead.
As i have been a long term employee of the mine it would be a shame if I was to be put into a position where i needed to be looking for a job at my stage in my working life.

Please allow the extension of Mount Thorley Warkworth to continue. I believe that it will be devistating to the local community if the extension is not to proceed. I believe the workers of the mine are environmentally responsible and will do everything possible in controlling dust and noise.

A number of my friends live and work in the Hunter Valley region and they depend on mines like Mount Thorley Warkworth for their livelihoods. It is important that submissions like these are judged fairly on their merits and the contributions they make to local communities. I'm sick of noisy minorities dictating how the rest of the population live. If there are negative impacts why can't we as a nation and as adults find a happy medium?

I support the extension of the Warkworth Mine. As a person impacted by a Greenfield mine currently under development, I feel that the expansion of exisiting mines is a better option than the introduction of new mines. Rio Tinto seem to be doing all they can to minimise the impacts of this extension, and for the sake of the employees and the community this proposal should be approved. There are already siginificant job losses in the mining industry in the Hunter Valley. We cannot afford more losses at Warkworth.

Mining is an essentail component of the Australian economy. The government should be stimulating it's growth and not handicap it with unnecessary redtape. A healthy environment is just as important but we must balance the two in a responsible manner.
