Enforcements

On 22 June 2023, NSW Planning issued an Official Caution to Warkworth Mining Ltd (WML) for exceeded noise impact assessment criteria at three noise monitoring locations for the Warkworth Continuation Project on 20 July 2022.  WML had failed to implement their approved Noise Management Plan on the night of 20 July 2022 in the lead up to the exceedances. WML have since implemented measures to ensure compliance with their management plan and NSW Planningcontinues to monitor WML's noise reporting data and implementation of the NMP.

The extension of the Warkworth mine is a breach of good faith to the residents of the local community and the Hunter Valley. The original agreement identified the environmental and community concerns and these have not changed. It is essential that if communities can have faith in the contracts that were agreed to and that corporations cannot buy influence to change the goalposts.
The environment of the Hunter Valley cannot sustain further expansion of this mine.

I support the expansion of MT Thorley Warworth, as an employee who moved to Singleton for my job and rely on my source of income. I also see everyday the importance of Mt Thorley's influence on the areas businesses and realise that without it the town would struggle.

Hi my name is Brendon I am 21 years old and I am 1 of many operators at Mt Thorley Warkworth. I have been in the mining industry for the past 3 years Operating and surveying.
It is vital for my career that Mt Thorley Warkworth extension gets the approval so I can achieve my career goals as becoming and OCE. Mt Thorley Warkworth has the career path for me in a safe environment.
The community and many families would suffer if the approval was not given, giving that our wages are being put back into the community and many local business would suffer too.
I strongly support the extension of Mt Thorley Warkworth and I hope you do too!

Mount Thorley Warkworth is a vibrant and prouctive workplace. The team working there, my colleagues are all dedicated and pround of what they do.

Through providing this workplace and supporting local hunter valley events, such as the Winery Running Festival MTW has become an integral part of the community.

Should the continuation not be approved, 1300 dedicated people will loose their jobs and a signifi part of tbe community will suffer. This will come to those who work for supporting businesses and to the wider community as many of the local events will no longer be viable.

I believe that the continuation should be approved to allow the mine to continue to support the hundreds of families of those employed at the mine, but also to ensure a continued thriving hunter valley.

Mining supports the local economy and community. Families such as my brother's and the 1300 other workers at Mt Thorley Warkworth have settled in the area and need this development to be approved to help build a future for themselves. Please approve the application.

I fully support the MTW continuation. Please let common sense prevail and approve the extension.
MTW not only supports local upper hunter business, it also impacts Maitland, Newcastle and Port Stephens.
There have already been too many jobs lost.
My family and the families of the 1300 workers at MTW rely on this.

I have been employed by coal & allied for 28 years and not having this consent approved would effect my future employment and would mean I would not be able to support my family and the community

the decision on the out come of this. is extremely important to me and my family for our future. every day we live with the stress of losing my job. for me this is would devastate me and my family because I am nearly fifty and would have to start all over again. and also would be a big loss for the hunter region and NSW.

I would like to make a submission in support of the project. I work hard and long hours at warkworth mine with 1300 other mums and dads, our income is vital for raising our family's, we all live in the hunter community between musswellbrook and Newcastle and actively support our local community"s , Our schools, soccer clubs ,learn to swim clubs, drum lessons, hospitals ,doctors, local shops , and restaurants . We are the community.
We the family's that work at warkworth need this extension to be approved so we can continue to raise our family's in the area, we are very much prepared to work with consideration to our neighbours in reducing noise and dust by working within a management plan so that we can co exist.. Warkworth mine has such a prosperous future for the whole hunter and the many people that live there..

Inlet rd BULGA

I would like to have my objection listed for the current proposal for the extension of Mt Thorley Warkworth. If this proposal is approved it will be the death knell for the village of Bulga, and the residents. The devastating impact on health for the residents will make it impossible to live in a healthy environment. The overall treatment of the residents by the New South Wales government in this matter and others which favour mining above people has been outrageous. The Governments role is to Govern, as you are nothing more than elected public servants, not dictate preferences that favour big business over local residents. The unmitigated favouritism to the Mining industry by this current government, is one of the reasons the previous government was voted out. Rest assured yours will most certainly be the same fate, unless the local resident concerns and worries are addressed . Peoples homes are there castles and deserve far more respect than what this government has shown.

I have worked for Rio Tinto in the Hunter Valley for almost three years. I have found the company is committed to its shareholders but importantly to its employees, community and environment.
I am certain that my future with Rio Tinto will end if the Continuation for Warkworth is not granted. This will be a huge dissappointment to me as I am proud to work for Rio Tinto. I will also need to move my wife and childen away from extended family and the Hunter Valley / Newcastle region to find employment.

Mining has been a key industry in the Hunter Valley region for more than 100 years. Any enterprise that involves 1300 jobs is important to maintain as that is not just 1300 individuals, but families, local businesses and communities that it provides financial input to. Mining contributed $6.3b to the Hunter region in 2012-13 and that would be almost impossible to replace....not to mention the impact on our export industry if MTW does not continue. Modern mining companies are responsible producers of commodities and I think it would be preferable to ensure effective management and mitigation of impacts rather than cause 1300 people to lose their jobs.

if mount thorley was to not get the extension i would not be bale to support my family and pay for things that i rely on this job, MTW supports singleton, musswellbrook, etc in giving them generous donations to the comunity ( 180 million ) to the comunity and without our mine alot of the town ship would die down you would see shops go down hill and the town would go straight of the map. i also would not like to see any of my mates and work mates loose their jobs and see there familys struggle.
