Enforcements

On 22 June 2023, NSW Planning issued an Official Caution to Warkworth Mining Ltd (WML) for exceeded noise impact assessment criteria at three noise monitoring locations for the Warkworth Continuation Project on 20 July 2022.  WML had failed to implement their approved Noise Management Plan on the night of 20 July 2022 in the lead up to the exceedances. WML have since implemented measures to ensure compliance with their management plan and NSW Planningcontinues to monitor WML's noise reporting data and implementation of the NMP.

As member of the local community and an employee of Warkworth Mining, the approval is vital to the area is important to me and my family. No approval will mean a reduction in the workforce and impact the entire Hunter Valley from the hairdress to the corner store. I support this approval

I don't think the people on the ground that oppose this project understand the impact the reversal of a very stringent environmental assessment process has had on Australia's reputation for a place to invest money and do business. If a long and detailed assessment can be easily reversed in a court, businesses have to question if this is the right country to invest capital in. There are many industries that have permanently left Australia due to high wages, high energy prices and now this industry can also be forced out due to Green activists and a few local people. Our future is on a knife's edge, once this industry leaves too, it will never come back. How many industries can we afford to lose and how many billions of dollars has the silly politics behind this approval process and others like it already cost Australia? Please quickly approve this project to protect jobs for those in this mine but also hundreds of others around our great country!

I am in full support of this submission. I am seeing many of my friends losing their jobs, the stress this is putting on their marriages and the financial impact is huge. If these mining applications do not get the go ahead, we are going to see families destroyed emotionally and financially. I live in Singleton and the town is suffering. I have many friends who have businesses associated with the mining industry, they are contemplating closing their doors. I have lived in Singleton all my life and the land where it has already been mined looks better than before. Mines look after the environment, if you want to voice your opinion about the environment then you do your bit, stop driving your car, don't use your fire in winter.
Please allow MTW submission to get the green light, I don't want to see any more families succumb to the pressure of no job. Please understand the dilemma, thanks

I think the mine should be allowed to continue operating. If the mine closes there are approx 1300 workers that will be affected but it is not the just workers. It is their families who rely on this income.
You will also be putting hardship on all the businesses in the area and also all around Australia that support this site. Also there are many more people that 'work' for this minesite that you don't see and that don't work in NSW. I support this business from my office in Brisbane.

If this expansion does not go ahead, I see a rapid decline in the community, it is not only going to affect the approx 1300 direct employees it will affect every company that operates and supports the MTW operation, stretching from Newcastle to Scone and beyond. The Communities will also suffer be it Retail / Lifestyle business' , sporting clubs and the general Community organisations. I have got no idea of what the Goverment receives in royalties but I woud imagine the dollars lost would be signifcant enough compared with what they are going to have to invest to support those 1300 employees and their Familes and the rest of the effected community to be retrained, employed elsewhere , plus health costs burden supporting those that will need extra Counselling and general health care as those people will no longer be able to afford there own Health care if this application for expansion doe not go ahead.

I worked here going on 31 years and I have 2 son in laws and a daughter in the industry. I would like to see employment continue otherwise families have to leave the area in search of employment and I support the extension at MTW and for continued employment in the Hunter Valley.

As an employee of Rio Tinto my job is at risk if the Warkworth extension does not go ahead. The town of Singleton is already suffering due to the uncertainty of all mining in the area, this will go a long way in bringing confidence back. We need our 'mining town' to prosper

As an employee at MTW mine there is the obvious direct effect on myself and my family if we do not get approval for continuation. This mine supports our house, our food, clothes and education for our children however the effect of the mine reducing production or closing completely has far greater reaching effects than the 4 walls of my house.
My daughter goes to swimming lessons. The majority of the kids she swims with are children of coal miners. Without their parents income those children wouldn't be able to attend swimming lessons, the small business owner who runs the pool would lose the majority of his business and the owner of the building leased for the pool would lose their tenant.
This is just one example of the flow on effects this approval not being granted will have on the greater Hunter community.

This goes way beyond the 1300 direct jobs, and the mining associated businesses in The Valley. If MTW can not continue, neither can the Hunter Valley continue as we know it.

Coal is here to stay in at least the medium term and steps should be taken to protect MTW and its employees against short term coal price and AUD exchange rate fluctuations.

Hi my name is Greg Dallas, I have been a employee of the mine industry for over 12 years, and as active member in the local community and rural fire service. As a family we rely sole on the mining community to support our growing family in all aspects of everyday living. With out my job in the community we would not be able to pay our mortgage, support, cloth, feed and educate our family. We have been living in singleton for over 30years and have seen a positive impact in our community due to the mining sector. Please consider our plea to keep the mining industry in singleton in a positive light so that we may keep our jobs and keep our family safe.

Yours truly Greg Dallas

I believe the extension will be beneficial to the Australian community as a large part of the revenue raised from the extension over the life of the mine will be fed back into the local and wider communities.
It will keep jobs in the hunter - which are at an all time premium due to the mass exodus of industry from the area.
The jobs are not only for the full time employees of the company but also the multitude of contract employees and specialist consultants from all over the country and internationally as well.
The wages of employees and contractors are fed back through the consumer market - supporting a huge range of local business'. The flow on affect of rejection of the proposal and closure of the mines will be devastating on the local economy. Following the closure of other local industries and scaling back of operations, the economic prospects in the hunter become grimmer again.
I believe the approval of the proposal is vital to the economic stability of the region for the near to mid range future.

Support for mining in our community needs to stay strong. There are so many individuals and businesses relying on the outcomes.
We are at the moment experiencing extremely difficult times with many already unemployed. The towns of Singleton and Muswellbrook will not survive without the continuation of mining. There have already been many business closures.
