Enforcements

On 22 June 2023, NSW Planning issued an Official Caution to Warkworth Mining Ltd (WML) for exceeded noise impact assessment criteria at three noise monitoring locations for the Warkworth Continuation Project on 20 July 2022.  WML had failed to implement their approved Noise Management Plan on the night of 20 July 2022 in the lead up to the exceedances. WML have since implemented measures to ensure compliance with their management plan and NSW Planningcontinues to monitor WML's noise reporting data and implementation of the NMP.

I believe that warkworth is definitely a sustainable project that is worth pursuing not only from the many people that livelihoods depend on it, but also the flow on effect it produces, just in terms on various local trades and organizations it supports.
I really do believe that by supporting this extension it will strengthen local community and newcastle in general even if the few object to it. I do not see any issue related to environmental impacts, noise dust etc that have not been dealt with sufficiently.

With the government continuesly talking about the level of unemployment how are you even considering not letting this extension happen. If the extension gets nocked back there will be more people applying for centerlink. With the extension given the go ahead that will alowe for more people to be able to be imployed .

I support the extension due to the the mine and people bring into the area. This is also a local business of the and provides employment both directly and indirectly to the local area and surrounds.

I am writing in support of the two development applications sought by Mount Thorley Warkworth mine:
1. Warkworth Continuation 2014, and
2. Mount Thorley Continuation 2014

I reside in Maitland and together with my partner, own a Maitland business whose growth and ultimate success is largely dependent on the strength of the local economy. The Hunter Valley mines are the cornerstone of that economy. Since the recent drop in the price of coal and subsequent dip in mining employment, our business, like many in the area, has suffered. But we know coal prices run in cycles, and will eventually recover. As currently approved, MTO would cease production in 2017. The proposals currently being considered would extend the life of the mine for a further 21 years, keeping hard-working people employed. Such an extension would bring reassurance to the local economy, which we fully support.

We urge approval of both applications.

The MTW continuation is very important to myself and family plus my 1300 work mates and families who rely on continued imployment to support themselves, if this were to get knocked back the effect on the local community would be widespread and not only effect myself and workmates but all the associated businesses throughout the community who rely on MTW as well.

I am an employee of Warkworth mine & have been for the past 6 years. When I was employed by Warkworth I was given the opportunity to gain numerous skills & provide a secure future for my family.
The community, the workers, the families, the local businesses - they all need the continuation of this mine to become a reality or the reality will be the destruction or a large amount of people & their livelihoods. Waiting for approval of this continuation puts a large amount of stress on many involved - the fear of the unknown. So many people have already lost their jobs, their homes & their faith please do not let this be another loss to that already long list.

The impact of this proposal to the Warkworth sands endangered ecological community is unacceptable; the government cherry picking the tools that will result in the least possible offset requirements and the greatest value for the proposed offsets is deplorable; the use of mine rehabilitation, which is an existing requirement, to offset the impact is not satisfactory for this project or any projects as will be the case due to the soon to be released Framework for Biodiversity Assessment (FBA) for major projects; the fact that the government is allowing an existing offset to be mined means that there is no guarantee that the inadequate offsets that are being proposed will be conserved into perpetuity.

Being born and bred in Singleton this extension at MTW is essential for the livelihood not only for myself but for the town in general because it will affect the businesses and the real estate market dramatically if it is not approved. It is not only my livelihood, but my son and daughter who are directly involved in the mining industry.

I am currently employed at Mt Thorley Warkworth and without the extension my employment out there is certain to cease shortly. My being employed there is depended on by my young son. I absolutely believe that while there is a downturn in the coal industry Mt Thorley thrive to move forward not only in providing minerals for clients but to look after their employees. I am, as so many others, are employed out there,we see the dedication and on going commitment to the environment/communities that makes it possible for me to say PLEASE support this extension. To make this possible, therefore in return I would without thought support that this extension be approved.

My partner is a contractor at Mt Thorley Warkworth, she helps support our family with her job. I not only support her continual position at this site, but also the support that Mt Thorley Warkworth gives the local communities through providing work for small businesses and work for many locals. This company like many in the Hunter has been here for many years working side by side with our farmers. Mt Thorley Warkworth provides a necessity our world needs. The rehabilitation area can be used once again for farming which has been proved by other mines in the area. Saying no to this submission not only affects individuals, but also families, businesses and communities.
