. There is no viable alternative to coal AT THIS STAGE
. The mining sector pumps allot of money into rehabilitation and research. Let's use the industry as part of the solution.
. Bush fire in the area cause more air pollution problems than mining.
. The majority of the opposition to the extension is from people who have ended there working career and no longer need an income.

I have worked at Mt Thorley Warkworth as a Dragline/Drill Supervisor for 7.5 years, my wife is also employed at MTW. Both of my sons will leave school within the next two years and both hoped to be employed here at MTW.
If the mine was forced to close or downsize, there are a number of contractors that provide support to our department and they could lose their jobs as well.

Dear Minister,
I support Coal & Allied's Warkworth Modification application to gain access to an additional 350m of land owned by the mine, to avoid a significant drop in production and employment.
I have worked at the MTW South CPP for the last 2.5 years as a full time Electrical Maintainer, and a further 6 years with Contracting companies. If the proposed project does not go ahead there is a real threat to my position at the MTW Mine.
During the past 6 months I have noticed more and more jobs are being lost in the Hunter Valley, with almost no new positions advertised for someone with my skill set.
I firmly believe that if I do lose my job at this Mine, I will either have to change careers, or potentially move to another region to find work. This would cause a ripple effect in our local community, such as:
My wife would leave her job at our local supermarket; the local school that is struggling for student numbers will have 3 less pupils; local sporting clubs and buisness' will have less members/customers etc. If even 10% of the 1300 jobs at risk were to move away from the area, this would have a significant effect on our area.
Mount Thorley Warkworth provides a stable income for over 1,300 full time employees in the Hunter Valley. And the operation of the mine reaches into many other businesses that supply MTW. Thousands of people depend on this mine and if production was to drop, the result could be devastating.
We need certainty. We've been wondering what the future holds now for four years. If this minor modification to an existing, 30 year old mine does not get approved, I am worried about what this will mean for local jobs and investment across the NSW mining industry.
Please accept this submission in support of the Warkworth Modification.
Regards
DGF

I wish to support the the Warkworth consent modification 6. I have been working at mount thorley Warkworth mine for the past 18 years as apart of the dragline drill and blast team as a operator and set up supervisor. My son is studing mining at uni and is looking at getting a career at this mine, and my Daughter is 16years old and she whats to be a dump truck drive at this mining. If the mine is force to close my family will lose our lively hood and be force to move from a town that has been well support by this mine not only by the empolyees but by the contractors witch i have couple of family members working for.

I would like to register my support for this consent as I believe it has a greater benefit for the comunity.
With the down turn in the industry and decreasing employment in the suporting industries that is already taking place in the region the comunity does not need the further impact that will come with the retrenchment and loss of expenditure that would follow a refusal of this consent.

I support Coal & Allied's Warkworth Modification application to gain access to an additional 350m of land owned by the mine, to avoid a significant drop in production and employment.
My family has resided in Singleton for the past 6 years. My wife is a teacher at Singleton High School and my 3 children attend schools in this area.
We are actively involved within our community and are fully supportive of this application, which if approved will significantly enhance employment security. Rio Tinto is an excellent company to work for and a major contributor to the community.
Please accept this submission in support of the Warkworth Modification.

I recently moved to the hunter valley with my husband who was transferred to mtw, so we could be closer to family. We have settled into the hunter community n enjoy our live style here, my job working at a support business to the mining industry also depends on the security n prosperity of all the mining companies in the hunter. We do not want to pack up n move interstate away from family.

The value to the community of Singleton and the outlying areas is immense. I have seen the number of houses for sale in the area increase dramatically over the last year and if this development doesn't go ahead it could mean the loss of many jobs in the area apart from the mine. Shops, schools, shire positions, it is a domino effect.
The RIO policies of regeneration and clean ups will ensure that the land after mining is renewed and re forested.
Keep the jobs in the area.

Dear Minister,
I support Coal & Allied's Warkworth Modification application to gain access to an additional 350m of land owned by the mine, to avoid a significant drop in production and employment.
I have worked at Mount Thorley Warkworth for 5 1/2 years and are currently working as an operator and step up supervisor on the pit services team. I believe that if this smaller approval to continue to mine does not get approved the mine will immediately reduce employee numbers by approximately 400 jobs and potentially close within 2 years. Being the only income source for my household with a wife and 2 children (1 a newborn) I am extremely concerned how I am going to provide for my family if this extension is not approved. I cannot afford to go without employment for more then a month at best and feel that it is going to be difficult to find further employment within the hunter valley due to the number of employees that are going to be unemployed and looking for work.

The extension is imperitive to my future, I am a trainee at MTW, and at 38 years of age I have switched to the mining industry as a complete change of career, and feel blessed to have an opportunity that MTW has offered me.. I personally am in the process of moving to Singleton and creating a life here because of this job, I am desperate to continue learning all that this industry has to offer, particularly in a mine such as this one... Therefore, I would love to continue in a job such as this one...
I can see the difference that this industry makes to a town such as Singleton and all the surrounding towns, with business booming in these towns, keeping so many families in business and able to afford an amazing standard of living, not only the families in the mines...
As for the hundreds of miners working at MTW as well as their families this is so important to us all, with mortgages and families to support, we are desperate for the relief of continued work without stress...

I would like to see the extention to happen because as a trainee i would like to continue in the mining industry for a long time to come, it has been a long process to become apart of MTW and dont want to see it end. I am starting a family and getting settled into the area and dont want to move away at such an early stage, i hope that you put yourself in my position and see that this job is to provide for my family, and i dont want to let them down. MTW gives great opportunities for over 1000 workers and invests back into the local communities and it is noticeable to see when you live in the area.
Therefore i hope you think about how many people are going to be affected if this extenion is rejected.
Thank you for your time
