we have 25 people directly working at Warkworth and if this site was to close we would lose a lot off fabrication in our workshop and would have to terminate 25 people + some from workshop. as our company turns over 2 million a year temmco would possibly have to shut

I BELIEVE THAT THE EXTENSION BENEFITS:
THE LOCAL COMMUNITY, THROUGH EMPLOYMENT AND USE OF TOWN FACILIITIES.
THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES, THROUGH EMPLOYMENT AND USE OF LOCAL CONTRACTORS
INCREASE IN TAXES FROM BOTH DIRECT AND INDIRECT EMPLOYEES AND THE COMPANY

For most of the year the land around Bulga is marginal at best for agriculture. People live there because the land value is low - it was low before the coal mines established in the area and it is still low. I'm all for protecting and saving our fertile and productive areas, but we need to strike a balance between the needs of many that rely on the coal industry versus the few that have made a choice to live in marginal country like Bulga.

The world, including Bulga, relies on coal for electricity generation and will do so for many decades to come yet. The human race needs coal. If Mount Thorley Warkworth does not provide it, somebody else will. We should sieze the opportunity to prosper from the wealth that the coal industry provides to the local and state economies.

I don't live in Bulga, but I do live locally and welcome the positives that derive from a society that is employed with a good standard of living. I support the Mount Thorley Warkworth extension.

I wish to give my support the the extention of the Mt Thorley Warkworth mine site. This extention is critical to myself and family , as it would secure my position at the Mt Thorley Warkworth mine site for an extended period of time , also the economic benefits of thisextention will be felt through out the community as myself and other employees will continue to use our wages in our local communities, also the mine will continue to support local business which will also help the economy in the local area .
This extention should be approved to help support the entire state and not be rejected due to a handful people who are against all things mining

I support the proposed extension as mining is an integral part of the Hunter Valley community and contributes millions of dollars and thousands of jobs to the area, the state and the nation. We moved to this area for a job in the mining industry and I would suggest that there are many like us who would not be renting properties and spending our money here if it were not for the continued operation of the mining industry in the area. Failure to approve this extension will lead to job losses as have already been seen and will have a much larger flow on effect to many other small businesses and home owners in the area.

Dear Minister,

I support Coal & Allied's Warkworth Modification application to gain access to an additional 350m of land owned by the mine, to avoid a significant drop in production and employment.

Mount Thorley Warkworth provides a stable income for over 1,300 full time employees in the Hunter Valley. And the operation of the mine reaches into many other businesses that supply MTW. Thousands of people depend on this mine and if production was to drop, the result could be devastating.

My partner and I rely on MTW. We have purchased a house in Singleton and focus our spending in the local region.

We need certainty. We've been wondering what the future holds now for four years. If this minor modification to an existing, 30 year old mine does not get approved, I am worried about what this will mean for local jobs and investment across the NSW mining industry.

Please accept this submission in support of the Warkworth Modification.

I started at MTW as a mining operator & have progressed into a leadership role. During my 13 years at MTW I have watched the Mine develop & become more sensitive to the needs of the local community & regulators. This has at times had a negative impact on production & increased costs which MTW as accepted as the way of the future with a commitment of striving for best practice in all areas.
Mount Thorley Warkworth provides a stable income for over 1,300 full time employees in the Hunter Valley. MTW also provides allot of business to the local & surrounding communities .
There is already a downturn in the local community & with many businesses & thousands of people depended on this mine without this modification, the result could be devastating.
We all need certainty. We've been wondering what the future holds now for four years. If this minor modification to an existing, 30 year old mine does not get approved, I am worried about what this will mean for local jobs and investment across the NSW mining industry. Mining & local communities need to continue working together

Please accept this submission in support of the Warkworth Modification.

I moved to the Hunter Valley from Sydney in 2003 and have worked with Coal & Allied for 8 years in the delivery of capital projects and mining process upgrades. All of these projects have employeed local people, developed skills, provided learning opportunites and injected millions upon millions of dollars into the local comunities and businesses. Due to ongoing uncertainty around the future of the MTW mining operation expenditure on such projects has significantly declined and the future is looking more and more uncertain.

I have regularly over the past 8 years employeed significant numbers of specialist contractors from around the Hunter Valley region and beyond, if the MTW operation cannot obtain the relavenet approvals necessary to continue mining at an economically viable capacity then it is inevitable that future expenditure on such projects will decline.

The effect of this uncertainty has already cost some of my immediate work collegues there jobs as multiple projects have been put on hold pending a clearer future for the mining operation. I have no doubt that my position and consequently the future expenditure with multiple local service providers in the Hunter Valley is currently in jepoardy pending the outcome of this application.

I support Coal & Allied's Warkworth Modification application to gain access to an additional 350m of land owned by the mine, to avoid a significant drop in production and employment and detrimental flow on effects to the wider Hunter Valley community.

I have worked at the mine for 6 years as a surveyor and see the importance of extending the mine life for the benefit of local jobs and the community.

The reason i am writing this submisiion today is to strongley support this application. As an contractor working for the company the loss of this application for extension would most certainly lead to my position with in the orgaisation being made redundant meaning that i would no longer be able to support my family, would struggle with mortage, bills etc: i genuinly think that it is the best interest of the community and the state for this application to be approved. the amount of money lost to the community, the amount of jobs that would be lost etc: would have detremantle effects on not only the local economy but also the broader economy.
I ask that you please DO the Right thing for not only the local community but also the broader community and please approve this application for extension. I need this job as do the other employees of this mine, my family needs me to have this job and the local town needs us to all retain our jobs. You will not only be securing the future of Mt Thorley Warkworth, approving this application will also secure the future for local buisness who benefit from mining in particular small buisness.
Thank you for accepting and reading my submission and i hope to hear good news soon.
Please approve this application.
David Hartley.

i am an employee of Rio Tinto i ahve been working at Mount Thorley Warkworth for the last 2 years, i relocated from Rockhampton Queensland for this job and have settled into the comunity and have started a new family here.
If the extention is not granted the flow on affect will not only be detremental to my family but will have a greater inpact on the area of singleton and sourounding comunitys like BULGA.

i would like to make a submission that the Warkworth extension is given consent to go ahead.

Mining and minerals is the only assett Australia has besides people. They both go hand in hand.
Australia's economy is kept strong from nothing else other than mining. Who wants to live in a third world country. Australia would be very much like it if it had no minerals.
Cant the government see the royalties they will make on mining and all the extra people they wont have to find social security money for.
Mining plays a 30% slice of our business in regional NSW and the hunter valley area provide us with support and in turn employ a workforce in a struggle outback town of lake Cargelligo.
i strongly suggest the Warkworth extension be given the go ahead as soon as possible.

Dear Director,

I am writing in support of the Warkworth Modification.

As an employee at the mine, it was extremely unsettling to see the 2012 Warkworth Extension approval be overturned in the NSW Land and Environment Court earlier this year.

This ruling followed a three year approval process during which a number of experts in their field reviewed and approved the application, only for it to be overturned by a Judge on all counts. This decision created a serious lack of confidence and mistrust in the NSW planning approval process.

This modification is critical to the future of the mine, its 1300 employees, contractors, suppliers, their families and the communities that exist because of the mining industry. Without this modification, many of these groups will be either directly or indirectly affected through job losses, lack of work, business closures, etc. On a personal note, having worked in the Hunter Valley for a number of years, I will be forced to look for work in other locations. Unfortunately, this will undoubtedly be the fate for many Hunter Valley residents.

The coal mining industry is the life blood of this region and yet its importance and value has not been reflected in the planning approval process. Hopefully, the new State Environmental Planning Policy amendment will provide the legislation needed to rebuild trust and create certainty for those whose livelihoods depend on it and the NSW coal mining industry in general. The first step towards achieving this goal is the approval of the Warkworth Modification.
